Last night, news came out on twitter from ABC: Soaps In Depth that Jill Farren Phelps was out as General Hospital's executive producer and Frank Valentini, the head man at One Life to Live was taking her place. Today it was revealed that Ron Carlivati, who was the last head writer at One Life to Live will be the program's new head writer.
This may be a big change for the show, as Phelps has been at GH for a decade. The current head writer Garin Wolf and his co-head writer Sherry Altman will continue at GH, but not in those positions.
Will this keep General Hospital on the air longer? Is the program going to continue and celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2013? Who knows, but it will be interesting to see if GH changes in tone and scope. According to press reports, they will be starting at General Hospital on January 9, 2012.
