Days: Horton Square Tree Lighting

On Tuesday, December 6, Days of Our Lives started the holiday celebrations early as characters put up trees all over town. Richard Culliton wrote this episode.

At Sami (Ali Sweeney) and Rafe’s loft (Galen Gering), Will (Chandler Massey) ruined the party. He went off on his mother, as he had too much to drink. Seeing Sami and EJ (James Scott), have hate sex, sent him over the edge. He apologized to everyone except his mother calling everyone “saints” for putting up with her. Austin (Patrick Muldoon) tried to talk him down, but was unsuccessful. Sami and Carrie (Christie Clark) had peace in their sister relationship, but due to Carrie supporting Marlena (Deidre Hall) and invited her to this Christmas activity, the détente they shared ended. Lexie (Renee Jones) and Abe (James Reynolds) were there as Will combusted, and she made a remark how this isn’t as bad as being with her family the Dimeras. Meanwhile at the Dimera mansion, EJ and Nicole (Ari Zucker) had sexy times as she was invited to move back in and she had on a holiday outfit.

The activities at the Horton house caused controversy, though not in Salem on Days of Our Lives, but within the fan base. People were upset over Days breaking tradition and having the ornament ceremony weeks before Christmas Eve. Also Daniel (Shawn Christian) and Melanie (Molly Burnett) were given ornaments. As biological relatives to Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) there were welcomed into the family she was married into for over 30 years. They even gave Maggie’s new husband Victor (John Aniston) an ornament, but he was not at the event. What I found amusing in a strange way was that Maggie put Mickey and Victor’s ornaments next to each other, instead of putting her ornament between them. Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) was surprised that her former husband Jack (Matthew Ashford) showed up, but Abby (Kate Mansi) had invited him. This was awkward for Daniel due to how he is dating Jennifer. Doug (Bill Hayes) and Julie (Susan Seaforth-Hayes) were on, putting up their ornaments along with her late mother Addie’s (also Hope’s mom). They kissed more than once. Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) put up their ornaments, along with their late son Zach and helped their daughter Ciara (Lauren Boles) hang hers. This episode had flashbacks to Alice and Tom with the ornaments along with Jack getting his ornament from Alice.

The episode ended with everyone that was on the episode except for EJ and Nicole in Horton Town Square trying to get along for the sake of the holiday. Abe as the mayor gave a speech about how the tree in town had ornaments with names of charities, which was a variation of what the Horton family does. Theo hit the lights and the cast sang Deck the Halls.

It was odd, to see Days of Our Lives have a holiday episode so early in December. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t loathe it. I would have rather seen it closer to Christmas, though a lot of towns have tree lightings in the first half of the month.
