Days: Chad's Departure

On October 30, 2013, Chad Dimera (Casey Deidrick) left Salem for good. The character was leaving town to get additional medical help after he was shot protecting his brother EJ (James Scott).

Since Days of Our Lives tapes so far in advance, if someone follows spoilers they knew that Casey was departing the show. So the relationship that Chad and Abby (Kate Mansi) rekindled was a waste as it wasn't going to last. Chad lied to Cameron (Nathan Owens) about having a brain tumor. Cameron stepped aside, and Chad started seeing Abby exclusively. Abby lost her virginity to Chad, but seemed to be upset over how everything went down in regards to both men. Before Chad left, Abby broke up with him.

Chad also said goodbye to Will (Chandler Massey) and Sonny (Freddie Smith). They brought Will's daughter Ariana Grace along and he hugged the baby whose middle name was the same as the daughter he had lost without ever knowing her. Before bringing Chad up to the roof to the helicopter, EJ thanked his younger brother for saving his life. Since their father Stefano would be with him in Boston, he would get the bulk of his support, which could be a double edged sword.

Even though Chad became a Dimera, I appreciated that his friendships with people like Will and Sonny weren't sacrificed. He also was allowed to love his nephews Theo and Johnny. While he manipulated for "love", he was capable of being a somewhat decent human being and hadn't crossed the line into being a violent criminal unlike most of his family.
