GL: Free 1984 Episode

Soapclassics.com has posted a free streaming episode on July 11, 2012 that will be available for a limited time only on their website. This episode takes place on August 15, 1984. It is Founders' Day in Springfield as it began in 1834. The cast is all decked out in period costumes for the 150th anniversary.

HB Lewis (Larry Gates) is giving a speech as Reva (Kim Zimmer) is missing. He feels like she should get the glory for his wife's work to make a new hospital wing. HB then makes a speech how LTA of Springfield and Lewis Oil of Tulsa are one company now, and it will be Lewis Oil of Springfield. Of course, this gets a bit of a reaction from those who work at Spaulding as now they had a huge competitor in town. We see Mike Bauer (Don Stewart) during the speech, but he doesn't appear in the rest of the episode. Beverlee McKinsey (Alex) and Warren Burton (Warren) are also in the background I believe. HB wonders if anyone kidnapped his wife. Meanwhile Reva and Josh (Robert Newman) are sitting together alone. They are just talking, but a photographer snaps their picture. Josh mentions Happy Days Are Here Again, and Reva recalled how he would sing that whenever the Tulsa Tigers won. They are looking at the stars, and Josh starts pointing at constellations giving their names. Josh is glad to be going back to work also. One summer at Cross Creek is mentioned how it was warm enough to go swimming without your shirt off during the day, but cool enough at night to light a fire. Vanessa (Maeve Kinkead) sees the photographer Mr. Brown and startles him. They are able to depart as Vanessa talks about the smugglers and spies that were on that side of the river. Vanessa stats crying tears of frustrating due to her pregnancy and how Billy (Jordan Clarke) has been lying to her. Nola (Lisa Brown), Quint (Michael Tylo) and Stacy all run into her. Nola speaks to Vanessa alone as Quint takes Stacy to play with the ball. When Vanessa gets back to the party she confides in her father Henry (William Roerick). She says all Billy cares about his getting back at Reva, not her, the baby or Mindy.

Phillip (Grant Aleksander) is at the gazebo with Tanya (Barbara Ring). He gets fresh with her, she says no, and he says yes. He continues to kiss her and pushes her down on the bench. She gets angry enough to slap her and tells Phillip, he is using her. Tanya says how he's still in love with Beth (Judi Evans). Phillip becomes verbally cruel and says how he wouldn't have sex with her even on a bet. Lujack (Vincent Irizarry) and Henry talk about how due to her wealth Alex has duties even if she is at a party. Henry mentions how he knows about Brandon's bequeath. Gina (Annabelle Gurwitch) talks about how she is starting at Spaulding in the secretarial pool. She's afraid of Ross (Jerry verDorn), who helped get her the job. Henry told him that Claire was at the gazebo and runs into Tanya. Tanya's still upset and Ross tries to calm her down over what happened with Phillip. Gina asks Pretty Boy (David Rod Curry) to dance with her. Phillip comes by and starts to cause an issue for them and Beth and Lujack. Ross interrupts and Beth and Lujack go for ice cream. Phillip asks why Ross is so serious and why was Tanya in tears. Phillip jokes about him being a big boy now, but Ross was not having it. (Even though the word rape was never mentioned, I appreciated the subtext to earlier story and how Ross wouldn't stand by if something like that happened unlike the past.) Ross goes off on his nephew due to his behavior, and that he was out of line. Phillip mentions Gina and how she is going to Spaulding. Ross says that yes he is helping her, and he wants Phillip to stay away. Phillip asks Gina to dance as Ross looks on and Pretty Boy runs away.

Annabelle (Harley Jane Kozak) and Tony (Greg Beecroft) was chatting with hot dogs. They talk about how Fletcher (Jay Hammer) is doing something beyond the call of duty by choosing to spend the night with Susan Piper (Carrie Nye). Claire (Susan Pratt) is playing a carnival game, and Fletcher and Susan come up to her. Fletcher tells her that their engagement is over, but this is just for show. Claire explains her frustrations to Annabelle. Fletcher and Tony meet at the gazebo and discuss their plan. Fletcher leaves and Tony runs into Jim (Michael Woods) and Hillary (Marsha Clark) and asks them to check in on Annabelle. Jim and Hillary love each other and talk about marriage. He does tell her that if they decide to have children that he'll give her everythng including the certificate and cottage.

Nola and Quint with Stacy are still looking for Jonathan, and ask Henry. He says the last time he saw the boy he was with the person in charge of the hall of records. The Lewises (Josh, Reva, Trish and HB) all go say goodnight to the Chamberlains. Trish (Rebecca Hollen) has a blue teddybear, and does more in the episode before this one. They are leaving early due to Josh's paralysis as he is still in a wheelchair. Henry reminds them about the joint venture Billy and Vanessa's child. Billy talks to Mr. Brown. He explains how Vanessa blew his cover. Vanessa says she is sick of being treated as his broodmare and not his wife. If he doesn't tell her what is going on, she is going to go home and pack her bags.

Fletcher and Susan Piper are kissing. He breaks the kiss to look at Tony and Annabelle's house. She asks what he is looking at and then Claire catches them together. Then we see Katie and Jim as Annabelle asks where Tony has gone. Tony turns on the light and see the man in martial arts clothes with his face and body covered from head to toe.

I liked this episode, but suggest that if possible check out the episodes surrounding it to get more information as to what was happening at the party. This event ran for a few days, and it is helpful to see more of the party. Ironically I watched the fan uploaded videos of this party on YouTube in the last week for the very first time.
