Days: Last Week Before Olympics Pre-Emption

Due to the Summer Olympics, Days of Our Lives won't be on for two weeks starting after the July 27, 2012 episode. The show is having an event promoted as a "Dayaster", which will be a cliffhanger, spoilers are included below.

From what it sounds like this cliffhanger will include the deaths of Madison (Sarah Brown) and Jack (Matthew Ashford). Of course we don't know yet how graphic they will be and if either could easily return to Salem. Places like the Horton Square will be damaged, but we've seen still photos of the set used for taping of October episodes, so it must be fixed rather quickly. This kind of gimmick is one that is understandable as they want people to tune back in once Days returns. All I know is that some fans are tuning out for the interim after Jack and the others are gone. Some may be back for Eileen Davidson's return as Kristen, but we shall see what happens with the ratings now.

Other years, NBC continued to show Days during the Olympics, but I feel that this may have been a good idea due to the time difference between London and the US. Many of the big events will be going on live during the daytime in the US, so if something ran over Days would't begin on time. I'd rather have a planned pre-emption than come home and find that I only got part of an episode because a sporting event didn't end on time.

During the time Days is off the air due to the Olympics, SoapNet will be showing a special fan-voted General Hospital episodes. Since I don't have the channel, I won't be summarizing them unfortunately, so hopefully someone will let everyone know what episodes won.
