Y&R: A Tale of Three Weddings

Recently on “The Young & The Restless”, three weddings were held. One has a happy occasion, but the others were a lot more tragic. What follows are summaries of what happened in chronological order.

Jack (Peter Bergman) and Genevieve (Genie Francis) loved one another, but she had a secret. She bid on and won Beauty of Nature, which was what Jack wanted to purchase. Once her company Forget Me Not, was the new owner of the company, she decided to end her engagement to Jack. She sent a note to the church explaining why she could not marry him. This message was intercepted by Patty (Stacy Haiduk) who then proceeded to impersonate Genevieve and walked down the aisle. When she pulled down the veil of the wedding gown, Jack was shocked. He asked if she was Emily, and Patty in a fit of rage shot him. Sadly this put him near death. He has gotten better, but remains in a wheelchair potentially paralyzed for life. Patty was returned to the mental institution she escaped, and Genevieve is dealing with Victor (Eric Braeden) trying to get her to give back Beauty of Nature.

Angelina (Diana DeGarmo) and Kevin (Greg Rikaart) got married to save his life. Due to Angelina’s manipulations, Kevin left his fiancé Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) at the altar. Angelina and Kevin went on the run, as he believed that her former boyfriend was trying to kill her. They were travelling around for weeks, first to Niagara Falls and later to the shore within the New York Tri-state area. There was an island they got stranded on, though finally they escaped. The caveat was Angelina lied that Kevin wanted to be her husband or else her father would have arranged a hit on his life. They had a quickie wedding done by Sheryl Underwood from The Talk. Kevin had to explain to Chloe what happened, and while she is sad, at least he had not fallen for someone else.

Unlike the other two weddings, Cane (Daniel Goddard) and Lily (Christel Khalil) remarried out of love. The two had been separated due to his lies. (He faked his death to spare her among other untruths.) Kay (Jeanne Cooper) used her private jet to send the happy couple along with her family to France. They had the wedding outside in Provence. Y&R did not send part of their cast to Europe, but did film on location. Kay remained in Genoa City, but Neil (Kristoff St. John), Sophia (Julia Pace Mitchell), Harmony (Debbi Morgan), Devon (Bryton), Olivia (Tonya Lee Williams), Abby (Marcy Rylan), Jill (Jess Walton) and the babies (Charlie, Matilda and Moses) all went to France. Abby acted as Lily’s attendant, while Devon stood up for Cane. Neil walked Lily down the aisle, and Jill was a proud mother of the groom. Genevieve wasn’t invited, but she found out the location and watched the ceremony from a distance. While this wedding was low key, I appreciated that the couple's relationship was respected and the event romantic.

While Y&R had three weddings in the last few weeks, I appreciated that they were extremely different in tone. Jack and Genevieve may be through, but the wreckage of their relationship may come into play if Jack proceeds in suing Genevieve for how she got Beauty of Nature. Angelina and Kevin are stuck together for the interim, and who knows if feelings will emerge. Cane and Lily are married again and hopefully they will have some happiness and hopefully no other secrets from the past come back to haunt them.
