Y&R: Tucker and Ashley's Hospital Nuptials

On the US episode of The Young and the Restless, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) and Tucker McCall (Stephen Nichols) were pronounced married by a chaplain. The characters wed in his hospital room after he awoke from a coma.

While he may be well enough to get married, it isn’t smooth sailing for the duo. Her daughter Abby cannot stand him and attempted to break apart the relationship. Months ago during a tornado, Abby found Tucker in bed with Diane and ever since she has thought he is not good enough for her mom. Now she used Diane again to try to put a wedge between Tucker and Ashley. Then again Ashley and Tucker started when Ashley was dating Neil, but they have remained friends and Neil works for Tucker.

Tucker and Diane never made it to the Abbott cabin, which was what Abby and Diane planned for Ashley to see. While Abby didn’t want to hurt her mom, she did want to destroy Tucker. Instead Abby and Ashley saw that Tucker was on the side of the road. Instead of swerving to not hit Tucker, Abby decided to ram into him. This nearly cost him his life. He had more than one surgery, and had to be on life support. Ashley decided she wanted to protect her child and lied that she was the culprit. Abby was drinking, while Ashley was sober. After the accident, Tucker and Abby were rushed to the hospital, though Ashley was relatively unhurt. Diane saw that the car drove intentionally into Tucker and told the police.

Nikki figured out Abby’s part in the accident and wanted her to confess. She confided in Victor, about what she suspected, who was first angry and skeptical, but came to believe it. Abby now is in a rehab even if she may not be an alcoholic. Victor wanted to make sure Abby didn’t tell the truth, as it would destroy her future. Telling the truth though was the only thing that would comfort Abby, so who knows what will happen now. Since the actress who plays Abby (Marcy Rylan) is pregnant in real life, they may revisit this angle for the maternity leave, but we shall see.

Since the police thought the accident wasn’t an accident, and Ashley was covering for Abby, she was charged with hitting Tucker. Ashley was in jail without bail for a time as she visited Tucker even when there was a restraining order that said she needed to stay away. Eventually that went away, and after the wedding the charges were dropped. That was the best wedding present they could get.

Since Tucker owns a multinational company in McCall Unlimited, he had plans if he ended up incapacitated. They were to allow his mother Kay to run it. If Ashley and Tucker had their ceremony, it would have gone to Ashley. Kay did a lot of things, which would have upset Tucker about the business. There was the lack of going after the Newman IPO, Ashley being fired, Sophia being put on leave and Jack being rehired as the CEO of Jabot. All of these things would make Tucker see red. Though Ashley supports her brother being the head of Jabot as he loves the company. Kay made that decision after a “visit” from the late John Abbott.

While Tucker and Ashley are happy to be married, he may have serious neurological damage. Hopefully Ashley can take care of the business and her family without having too many conflicted loyalties.
