On the Wednesday episode of All My Children, Ryan Lavery (Cameron Mathison) and Greenlee Smythe (Rebecca Budig) finally said, “I do”. Ryan surprised Greenlee with a wedding, as their last ceremony wasn’t legal.
With the help of friends and family, Ryan was able to execute a wedding for Greenlee. Ryan called Tad to marry them as he got certified to perform Jake and Amanda’s nuptials. Tad struggled for the right words to share with them. Emma who finally has come to accept Greenlee again was a great help. She set up the flowers and lured her back to their home. Ryan convinced her to lie about her hamster Harvey. By doing this Greenlee left Fusion to come home, but first she took a trip to the pet store. On the way back she ran into her father Jack.
Meanwhile Kendall showed up to pick up Spike, as she missed Ryan’s messages. When she was told about the surprise wedding she decided to stay and watch. Considering Emma and Spike are kids they cannot be witnesses so it is a good thing Kendall was there. Jack’s phone rang while he was spending time with Greenlee in the park. Ryan shared the surprise wedding news, told him to get his daughter home and invited him to the ceremony.
Jack walked Greenlee to the door and was surprised by what she saw in their place. The flowers, the kids, Kendall, and Tad what could this mean? When Ryan told her why she leapt into his arms.
Tad talked about importance of being together and relying on one another. Ryan and Greenlee made vows to each other and clips from as far back as 1999 were shown. Spike mentioned returning a doll or dolls to his half-sister Emma, which was amusing, but extremely random. With the kids there, it reminded everyone that they are a family. Seeing Emma get along with Greenlee after their recent strife was a good thing. Emma hated her due to Annie, but due to how they interacted after her half-sister Sara died things got better between them.
This wedding seems to be the start of the closure as the program is ending in September. Considering it aired the first week that Lorraine Broderick (along with others) is writing the wrap that is fitting. Love Ryan and Greenlee together or hate them, they were the one couple, which could easily get married without breaking continuity. It was a good start, and hopefully other characters get happy endings that make sense based on what we’ve seen on screen.
