Yesterday (March 18, 2015), Soap Opera Digest reported news about returns for "Days of Our Lives" 50th anniversary. The show's birthday is in November, but due to how far in advance the program produces new episodes, we're getting the information months prior to date. Below are my thoughts on what we know so far, which granted isn't that much.
So Peter Reckell (Bo) and Stephen Nichols (Steve) are both going to be returning to Salem. We don't know anything about the story and even if they will be in the same story. What we do know is that they should both be back on screen before the actual 50th anniversary. We don't know how long their returns will be (long term or short term), but hopefully some questions we have about the characters will be answered. Bo left town to look into Dimera related things and help his mother with treatment. His mother is back in Salem, and Bo has become a deadbeat father not checking in with his daughter Ciara. Regardless of his marriage to Hope (Kristian Alfonso) ending, Ciara didn't deserve this treatment. Steve just disappeared and his break up with Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) happened via text. As far as we know he is also neglecting their son Joey, and their adult daughter Stephanie no longer lives in Salem, so we don't know the status of the relationship.
What I wonder is are we going to get an "old-fashioned" 80's style story that explains their disappearances. Obviously they can't afford elaborate sets and on location travel, but I want the situation with the children fixed. That would be one of the best gifts for the 50th anniversary.
