This blog is mainly about soaps, though it will sometimes veer into other topics. The main purpose is to provide a space for when board discussion isn't enough as sometimes my thoughts and feelings take on a life of their own. Even if some of the shows I enjoy have been cancelled, I will continue to post about them. They may take away the shows, but they can't destroy the love.

Soap Stars in Other Places: Shop 'Til You Drop
Recently I watched a special holiday episode of the game show "Shop 'Til You Drop". This particular episode was from 1993 and included people who were on soap operas at the time (Victoria Rowell and Brad Maule.) Here is a link and below are my thoughts on this program.
GSN is showing regular episodes of this program weekdays, but this episode from 1993 is earlier than what they are currently running. This Lifetime episode was tweaked for the celebrity contestants playing for charity and was an hour long. Pat Finn was hosting with Mark L. Walberg (currently on Antiques Roadshow) as his cohost. The celebrity teams were the following: J.C. Wendel from Dave's World and Joe E. Tata from Beverly Hills: 90210 (playing for Homestead Hospice), Victoria Rowell (Dru) from The Young and the Restless and Michael Tucci (playing for The Foster Youth Connection), Mother Love and The Nelson twins (playing for the Lymphoma Research Foundation of America), and Farrah Forke from Wings and Brad Maule (Tony Jones) from General Hospital (playing for the Alzheimer's Association of America). Like the "normal" episodes there were teams of two (except for the Nelsons), and they did the normal stunt rounds. Since it was a Christmas theme, the stunts fit the holiday season. The top two teams then got to play the Shopper's Challenge round, which is a question and answer game. The winners of that got to go to the final round, which was running around the mall for $5,000 instead of the standard $2,500, if the $5,000 was raised, they would receive a check for $10,000 on top of their other winnings.
What was nice about this episode was that close to $50,000 was won for charity. Brad Maule and Farrah Forke were the winning team. They got the most total money before playing the last round, and got the $10,000 bonus. Some of the stunts were a bit ridiculous, but nothing too out of the ordinary. There was nothing outrageously disgusting though some were a bit embarrassing. Unfortunately this was the only celebrity episode that exists of this program, which is why I decided to blog about it.
