Cady McClain's Flip Fantasia

Today Cady McClain's new short film premiered on Vimeo. Below are my quick thoughts about the project.

Cady, best known for her roles on All My Children as Dixie and As the World Turns as Rosanna wrote, directed and produced the approximately 20 minute short. I first heard about the project on the More All My Children series, and decided to check it out when it became available online.

Flip Fantasia is about a group of young people living in present day New York City. The project was shot in NYC and benefits from the real locations. The main character is E, who is in denial. He and a group of friends partied too much and his beloved Belle died of alcohol poisoning. To shade her eyes, Belle has these fun glasses. This has a serious tone unlike some famous movies where characters drag around a corpse. The movie ends with Belle's impromptu water burial with the four guys all dressed in skirts. E's shirt said "No", which was very appropriate for his feelings that day. While the ending was poetic, my first thought was I wouldn't want to be the one who found Belle's body. I hope that E wouldn't get blamed for her accidental death or for hiding her fate.

Due to the subject matter: drugs, drinking and language, this is not for children or for those who are easily offended. To learn more about the project you can visit the official site or go directly to Vimeo to watch it.
