Y&R: How Abby, Harmony Genevieve & Heather left Town

In the last week and a half, Y&R had four departures as actresses who were taken off contract last aired. This entry summarizes how Abby (Marcy Rylan), Harmony (Debbi Morgan), Genevieve (Genie Francis) and Heather (Jennifer Landon) were all written out of "The Young and the Restless" as each character left Genoa City. This entry mentions over casting spoilers that have yet to happen.

The write off of Abby was on October 23, 2012. Of all these departures, Abby's was the most vague. She has some final scenes with her father Victor (Eric Braeden) and siblings along with her brother-in-law Billy (Billy Miller). Her last words were with Carmine who she told that someday she would get her father to respect her. Since the actor who plays Carmine (Marco Dapper) isn't on contract with the series, this may also be his last episode.

Harmony's write off was on October 30, 2012 as she said goodbye to Neil (Kristoff St. John). Harmony was leaving town as her daughter Anna was having problems. Since Harmony and Anna finally started getting along, Harmony would sacrifice herself for her daughter. Harmony and Devon (Bryton McClure) built on their relationship, so hopefully he can accept his mother's departure. The story between Harmony and Sarge (Darnell Williams) was also dropped as they had some sort of unknown past. Darnell Williams was taken off contract, but should be appearing for now on a recurring basis.

Heather and Genevieve both left on the same episode that aired on November 1, 2012. Heather left because of her father Paul (Doug Davidson). This write off was open-ended, but due to the contract news the character has left town for the foreseeable future. Heather took a leave of absence to help Christine (Lauralee Bell) find some evidence to help clear her father Paul of murder. Heather's relationship with Daniel wasn't mentioned, though they are still dating. Soap Opera Digest reported in their magazine that Michael Graziadei who plays Daniel is expected to be out before the end of the year.

Meanwhile Genevieve left because she was scared of her former husband Colin. A woman posing as her late daughter harassed Genevieve and her son Cane (Daniel Goddard). Cane believes that Genevieve was lying about his father's involvement and she couldn't change his mind. With Tucker's (Stephen Nichols) help, Genevieve left town and went into hiding to be safe.

Since Y&R has a new regime and stories are either ending quickly or being changed, it is hard to guess what direction the show is heading. I hope it is one I can enjoy.

Haven't been watching Y&R daily and wanted to catch up on how the offed characters were being written out of the show. Thanks for your great summary.

It appears clear that Y&R-- with it's new regime-- and it's sister show, B&B, are both being retooled to focus on their younger central characters. It can work on Y&R. I'm not so sure about B&B.

Jeanne Cooper must be under doctors' orders to back down to just occasional appearances due to her age and health. Completely understandable. Victor and Nikki have mucho mileage left and if they ever get rid of them…. Enough said. Jill Fenmore Foster Abbott needs to get back in the mix (not sure if that's in the plan) and Jack Abbot certainly has his interesting story lines, though, I'm not feeling the Brett Favre-esque 'addicted to pain killers' thing.

I don't think soaps do teenage characters particularly well. The Summer-is-a-brat storyline works my nerves. But, I guess, what else do teenagers do but act bratty.

On B&B, Susan Flannery's retirement and the subsequent 'death' of Stephanie Forrester is a HUGE blow. I was never a big Ronn Moss fan, but his character is central to the show and replacing him requires the right choice of actor for the B&B team. It will be interesting to see who gets the role.

As for the younger B&B characters, I hate the way the writers seem to be trying to recreate story lines of old in the younger/newer characters. At the top of my 'I hate it' list is the effort to make Liam, Steffy and Hope the new Ridge, Taylor and Brooke. WORKS MY NERVES!!!! Thomas vs. Rick is the new Ridge vs. Thorn. WORKS MY NERVES!!! If B&B wants to revive something, find a way to get the same energy of the old Forrester vs. Spectra rivalry out of the new Forrester vs. Spencer rivalry. Bill Spencer can be the Victor Newman of Los Angeles. LOL
