Thanksgiving in Soapland 2012

This is going to be short this year as some soap operas had no Thanksgiving celebrations. The Bold & The Beautiful and Days of Our Lives ignored the holiday. General Hospital's celebration was sad due to Edward's death and while "The Young & The Restless" didn't forget Thanksgiving it wasn't lighthearted fun.

B&B skipping Thanksgiving was understandable due to Stephanie's (Susan Flannery) being close to death. I plan on writing more about that story in another entry. Days ignoring Thanksgiving I really didn't understand especially since Eric (now played by Greg Vaughn) has returned to town as a Catholic priest. Couldn't his first service have been at a special Thanksgiving event for example.

For many years, Thanksgiving has been the big holiday for the Quartermaine family and seemed to be Edward's (the late John Ingle) favorite holiday. Other than the Q story, we also saw Steve (Scott Reeves) and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) at Kelly's with Shawn (Sean Blakemore) who didn't recognize Heather (Robin Mattson). AJ (Sean Kanan) and Skye (Robin Christopher) reunite and everyone gets to meet little Lila Rae. The turkey gets destroyed as Heather breaks into the house and then tries to kill Skye. Alice hits her over the head and Heather is sent back to the institution. We hear Edward sing, as the Qs do "We Gather Together", and we see Lila and Edward reunite in heaven. This is a short summary because I want to go into more detail about Edward's death is another post as it ran over numerous episodes.

Y&R had Victoria (Amelie Henlie) get rescued by Nick (Josh Morrow) and Billy (Billy Miller). Victoria was kidnapped because Billy had gambling debts. This was not very festive. Devon (Bryton McClure) goes to Katherine's (Jeanne Cooper) and it gets ugly after Jill (Jess Walton) invited Tucker (Stephen Nichols). In frustration, Devon leaves and joins Neil, Cane and Lily. Victor told Nikki what Billy did to cause the kidnapping. Sharon freaked out when she and Noah tried to go out for Thanksgiving. Paul devastated Nina after falling back in love with Christine, and Nina made plans to leave town for good. Kyle tells Jack about the Abbott family Thanksgiving in New York and tells his father how he drives away their relatives.

I wonder if it was me or was Thanksgiving kind of depressing in daytime this year. I hope the their is more joy in the Christmas episodes this December.
