Y&R: Ashley's Gone and Two Weddings

Last week a lot happened on The Young and The Restless. Ashley (Eileen Davidson) left town with her sister Traci (Beth Maitland). Also Sharon (Sharon Case) and Victor (Eric Braeden) eloped on the same day that Jack (Peter Bergman) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) got married.

Ashley left town because SONY decided that it would be better for Eileen Davidson to be back on Days of Our Lives than being on Y&R. Ashley's marriage to Tucker (Stephen Nichols) fell apart as he cheated on her. Her relationship with her brother Jack was strained due to his actions at Jabot. Her daughter Abby (Marcy Rylan) disappointed her by lying and faking a kidnapping. While Ashley has ties in Genoa City, they just weren't writing to the character. As part of Ashley's last story, we finally saw her interact with John (Jerry Douglas), Ashley's late father. What I appreciated was that they even had his ghost state how he hadn't been to see her until now as that had been a complaint why does he visit Jack and Billy (Billy Miler) and not Ashley. The scenes where the Abbotts were together made me sad, as it is possible that will be the last time we see these characters on screen together. Seeing Ashley say goodbye was difficult, though hopefully she will be back some day.

Meanwhile, Victor in a snit over Nikki and Jack getting married eloped with Sharon. She had no idea that Victor was using her to get at Jack and Nikki. Sharon and Victor married on a plane, and they improvised his ring. Before the wedding, she agreed to sign a prenuptial agreement, which was extremely generous. After the wedding, Victor felt the need to share this news with all of Genoa City. He called his son-in-law Billy and offered him a copy of the wedding video to post on his website. Billy did it because he didn't want to be scooped. While he told Victoria (Amelia Henlie) about the marriage, he didn't mention the video, and she was upset with her husband for sharing it with the world. Afterwards he went to the Abbott mansion to talk to Nikki. He admitted to the marriage, and while unnerved by Victor's actions Nikki wanted to marry Jack. Nikki and Jack married in a wedding surrounded by family and friends, which was a contrast to the ceremony that Sharon and Victor had. Jack even stood up for her though he spent some of the day in his wheelchair. During the reception, Sharon came by looking for Victor. Everyone was disgusted by Sharon's drunken behavior, and Nikki even threw her in the pool. Sharon left with Tucker, and they kissed. After consummating their marriage, Nikki left their bed wondering where Victor was. While Sharon is aware of her problems with Victor has he left her without warning, Jack has no idea that Nikki was that concerned about Victor.

Due to the change in executive producer and head writer at The Young and the Restless I am uncertain where this story will go next. At this point, it looks like Nikki is trying to be with Jack out of obligation and how he is a lot better for her emotionally than Victor. Sharon is with Victor because he is there and makes her feel better about herself, until his recent abandonment. Jack seems to love Nikki, but also appreciates that the relationship drives Victor crazy. Victor is with Sharon because she is available to him and the relationship is simple. None of these relationships are viable the way they are being written now, but who knows what the future will hold for these characters in Genoa City.
