GH: Lulu Isn't Pregnant

Last week on General Hospital, Lulu (Julie Marie Berman) took a pregnancy test, which came out positive. She took the test at the urging of her best friend Maxie (Jen Lilley, whose last episodes were during this material.) This post has speculation and spitballing based on spoilers.

Yesterday, Lulu and her husband Dante (Dominic Zampronga) found out that she wasn't pregnant after all. Dante's mother Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) "saw" that Lulu was extremely pregnant, but it was all in her mind. It was a false positive, chemical pregnancy, but there was no viable fetus. Lulu and Dante were disappointed by this turn of events. Up until this point, having a child together was something for the future. Now, they wanted to have a child right away. Her father Luke (Tony Geary) would have supported them if Lulu was pregnant. Considering Luke's feelings about family, it was nice to see he was supportive of Lulu either way. Years earlier, Luke was the person who comforted Lulu when she chose to have an abortion. She became pregnant after sleeping with Dillion. They did use a condom, but it was defective, but I digress.

Lulu and Dante had been facing issues with their careers. Lulu wasn't interested in working in the police station's evidence room, and prefers owning and running a night club with her former boyfriend Johnny (Brandon Barash). Dante was jealous, but realized that Lulu is loyal to her husband. Dante due to being a police detective also has responsibilities that sometimes clash with their life. Issues with money, career and pregnancy are realistic, which is something I do like.

Now with the seemingly upcoming illness story, a part of me is relieved Lulu isn't pregnant, but a part of me is worried by it. The relief comes from Lulu isn't going to miscarry a child due to some fictional epidemic caused by a toxin. The worry comes from the concept that would GH dangle the possibility that Lulu and Dante would have a child together, and then have the illness take away their chance as either Lulu/Dante or both may no longer be able to have a biological child. I may be over thinking this, as I am wont to do, but I've seen enough stories over the years where a scenario like this has been put into play.

Regardless of what happens in the future, whether they have a son named Rocco or a daughter named Juliet, which were Lulu's proposed names, I hope GH allows Lulu and Dante to work on staying together. Lulu and Dante are the only married couple left in Port Charles, and it would be nice if at least one couple was allowed to work together when things don't go their way.
