Again I’m writing about rumors, but at least they are not ones about a cancellation. Days of Our Lives may do a “gay” story. Entertainment Weekly wrote an article about it here. Now SOD ran with the rumor with additional information in print. Spoilers or at least rumors are posted after this paragraph.
My initial reaction to hearing that one or two Salemites are gay was “oh really?” The first round of rumors made it sound like Chad will be gay. The latest is that Will is the one. If they both are and Days would pair them they listened to viewers who sensed something between the best friends. They even have a couple name of Chill. Regardless of what happens, Will and Chad share family members, as Will’s half-siblings Johnny and Sydney are Chad’s nephew and niece. The scenes with the friends and little Johnny have been very adorable.
I don’t hate the idea of Will and Chad becoming involved romantically. If a soap opera is going to do a story about identity issues using two younger characters is a good way to do it. Since Will and Chad are related to core families, there are reverberations to be felt throughout the canvas. Will’s mom Sami is a Brady and his father Lucas who is off camera is a Horton/Roberts. If Will follows the religious beliefs of his mother’s family, that is yet another issue. Chad’s father is Stefano DiMera. His mother died and the man who raised him is a non-issue. Stefano is very traditional. While he is glad to have a chance to get to know his “lost” son, will he accept a gay child? Perhaps his half-sister Lexie will be supportive.
Chad and Will began as rivals for a girl. Mia and Chad had dated. She became pregnant and gave the child away in an illegal adoption, though the baby Grace ended up with Sami and Will’s family. Even though Mia didn’t realize Grace was her child, they bonded. Grace was supposed to be with EJ and Nicole ironically as EJ and Chad are now half-siblings. Chad still mourns his lost child that Will loved as a baby sister. Mia tried to play the guys against each other, as she wanted both. They both had enough and Mia was out in the cold. After that it was smooth sailing for the guys’ friendship. Mia left town to go to dance school paid for by Chad’s mother.
Will Chad and Will find true love together? Is this story a just a potential rumor and nothing more? I hope either way, that Will and Chad remain friends. They were able to overcome being in a triangle with Mia. If Days of Our Lives does this story, I hope they do right by the characters in the telling of the tale.
