This past week, General Hospital showed a medical story in which little Jacob Martin Spencer (this week they’ve been saying Webber, but when he was born it was Spencer) died due to injuries from being hit by a car. Since this is an ongoing story, I am only going to comment on what we’ve seen so far on GH.
Jake was Elizabeth’s middle child. He was conceived during the so-called “summer of sleaze” at least according to some fans of General Hospital. Liz and Jason Morgan became intimate though they used defective contraception and Jake was the result. Lies were told and Lucky was led to believe he was the boy’s biological father. Eventually the truth came out, but Jason decided it was safer for the boy to be raised with Lucky as his father. During this time frame, we’ve learned that Jason only held the boy eight times before he was killed.
Jake didn’t survive, as the damage to his brain was too severe. Patrick and Robin did what they could, but alas it was not to be. Meanwhile in another part of GH, Carly and Jax were dealt a serious blow. Their daughter Josslyn had cancerous tumors on both of her kidneys. If she didn’t start chemotherapy treatment soon, she would die, and the estranged couple was not sure how to proceed. Her best chance was to get an organ donation, but finding a kidney small enough for a child is difficult.
Jason had the support of Sam and Spinelli. He also shared his pain with Carly, and was cleared in his presence. She didn’t hide the fact she drove past the house even if Michael tried to skew the evidence to protect her. Awkwardly Jason approached Elizabeth, though eventually she relented. Considering Liz and Jax had planned to have a child together that was miscarried it is understandable that she would want to help him even if she can’t stand Carly. Then again after losing Jake, Liz knows what it is like to lose a child and wouldn’t wish that even on an enemy.
There were seven potential people who ran down Jake and they were Sam, Lisa, Robin, Luke, Carly, Sonny and an unmarked car. We saw Sam deal with the potential worries, as she has lost a child. Lisa was worried she would be railroaded, but was cleared though she will get into trouble for reckless driving. Robin and Carly were both horrified, but then relieved when they were cleared. We didn’t see Sonny’s POV or that of whoever was driving his car. The same with the unmarked car driver, though that vehicle was liked to Theo Hoffman aka the Balkan. Luke ended up being responsible for the death of his son’s child. Luke’s face was filled with horror once he found out the DNA was on the bumper of his car. He had no memory of even hitting Jake. Lucky who was reeling before he knew he was Luke, completely fell apart over this news. Having your cousin Carly be the culprit would be awful, but this is even worse.
Luke as the driver should reverberate through town. Of course, there are some vibrations that may never be felt, like how Bobbie (Luke’s sister) lost her adopted child due to a car accident, which coincidentally saved Maxie’s life. This is a reference to the famous BJ’s heart story. I hope even without Bobbie on camera, we have Maxie reference her life experience, as she is an organ recipient. Before Luke knew, he revealed the truth of Jake’s paternity to his wife Tracy. This news would destroy Edward and Monica, though while I am not happy they will be ignored in this plot. I am relieved neither of them killed Jake. That kind of plot twist would be even more upsetting than Luke.
What we have to wait and see with this story; is how does this influence the relationship Luke has with his family? His relatives have dealt with his past crimes, but this is heartbreaking. While in time his kids may be able to get passed it, the wildcards are Jason and Elizabeth. Jason I figure will be out for blood, but with Elizabeth I have no idea. Will Sonny play a part in this matter, being a friend to both Jason and Luke, I wonder. Hopefully whatever happens, they do not wimp out and allow us to see how this devastating situation changes the lives of Jake’s parents.
