Y&R: Christine's Back, but why?

On "The Young & the Restless" Christine aka Cricket Blair has returned to Genoa City. She came home with a secret, and it looks like we already know what it is. Hopefully there is a twist and this isn't all to the story.

The episode that aired on July 22 had Christine speak with Ronan on the phone. It seems like Ronan is Nina's son. The son she gave away to Rose Deville, who tricked her into selling her baby. Nina tried to get the child back, but was unsuccessful, and has always wondered what happened to her first child. Being a young and vulnerable teenager, Rose took advantage of her. She was told the child died, but that was a lie. Nina even paid Rose $20,000 to get her child back, but was bilked.

This was over 20 years ago. For those of us who weren't watching back then (I started watching after Nina already had this child and had moved on to Phillip), they showed flashbacks to those scenes today. Yes Y&R had flashbacks on today's episode from 1986/1987 era. Let's see Cricket and Nina together with really big, bad hair. Though in part of what we saw, Cricket was wearing a bad dark wig. The irony of it was Cricket used her name and called herself a teen model (while accurate for the time is hilarious if one thinks about it), while she was wearing the padding. Rose was played by the late Darlene Conley aka Sally Spectra from The Bold and the Beautiful. While I knew she had been on Y&R, it was cool to actually see something from that time frame.

Cricket has seen Nina, Paul, Michael and Kay, and for met Chance as an adult for the first time. Of course, Christine’s sense of timing was awful as she knocked on the door of Paul’s place while Nina and Paul were in bed. While Nina was waiting for Paul on today’s show, Christine stopped by too. While talking Paul vowed to Nina, that he will find her child. This is what made Cricket call Ronan. Since Ronan and Chance (Nina's younger child) hate one another, the idea of them being siblings may cause Nina some strife, as a mother with crossed loyalties as she may want to support the child she lost and also the one she raised.

The question is why would Christine lie to Nina. They are best friends and have been since they were teenagers. Even fighting over men didn't destroy their relationship. Is Christine protecting Nina? Is it something having to do with her or Ronan’s job that is making them keep quiet? So far from these few episodes I am interested in this story. Let’s hope they keep it up and it makes sense without rewriting bits of established history.
