Thoughts about "The Doctors" - April 1976

Another month's worth of episodes of "The Doctors" has aired on RetroTV. Below are my thoughts on what has aired for the month of April 1976.

Jerry and Joan's mother arrived in Madison after the AP wire picked up Joan's story. Virginia was a maid for the wealthy Peterson family, who was traveling abroad. Mrs. Dancy left service with no notice, and traveled back to the US.

Penny was tossed out of school for the time being due to cheating. She would lose that semester and the next. The university would have to decide whether or not she can return next Spring. Penny wanted to not lose all that time, but Nick, Althea, and her off camera father Dave Davis wouldn't help her. Penny ended up with the flu, and was in the hospital, due to Althea's injuries, Penny went to stay with the Powers. After Althea got out of the hospital, she felt faint, and since Penny wasn't there, he stayed overnight, sleeping on the couch. Althea had a nurse, who was off screen. Like the old days, Althea, Nick, Matt, and Maggie spent time together. At the end of the month, they went to dinner as a group.

MJ got Carolee's job, as Carolee has not returned to Hope Memorial. Dr. Kevin McIntyre seemingly got Dr. Robert Wilson's job as the psychiatrist at the hospital. Stacy wasn't happy to see Dr. McIntyre, and eventually decided to quit university. Rico and Stacy were still apart, and Steve wanted Stacy to get it together, as he knew how it was to lose someone you love. Meanwhile Mona's marriage died, as Win came from Boston, and announced she had to return to him, or he would divorce her. Mona was upset, but felt her family came first. (That being said, Mona could have gone home to Win for visits, before Carolee left.)

Ann tried to help Steve by getting Chinese food for the family, which they liked. That said, she ruined Erich's birthday with hiring an entertainer. Erich and the kids were enjoying themselves, even though Erich wished Mommy came. He thought the clown was hired by Mommy, but Billy lost it finding out it was Ann. Steffy was also at the party, and Billy tried to parent the kids throughout the month. Steve and Ann continued seeing one another, but would not be in the house together. Billy shared his woes about his family with Toni and Mike. Toni wanted to confront Steve about what is going on with Billy, and Mike said the guardianship was even more complex than the situation between him and his father.

Matt and Mike had an awful fight at a dinner party. Matt and Mike decided to not interact anymore as father and son. Matt then had a heart episode, though it wasn't an attack. Mike felt awful about what happened, but they haven't started getting along again.

Mike got a job, though it would be a lot of work. He would be in the police academy, when not working as a doctor for law enforcement. The amount of hours he was away, was the only thing about it that upset Mike and Toni. Martha was glad though that Mike was working again.

Scott had to deal with Eleanor being home, and Wendy was still unhappy. Wendy and Scott wished that Eleanor had been guilty of hurting Althea, to be rid of her. Scott wanted Wendy to have a life of her own at university.

Those were the highlights of April 1976 only April 29 was missing from the archive. We finally saw Steffy, and she was about three. She misses her Mommy, loves bacon, and even allowed her dad to put on her coat.
