Daytime Emmys News - Will the Network Soaps Stop Competing?

It is the middle of July, and we're getting Daytime Emmys news. How strange, below are my thoughts about what Deadline posted tonight.

So the four network soaps ("The Bold and the Beautiful", "Days of Our Lives", "General Hospital", and "The Young and the Restless", are complaining about the issue with the votes for the digital awards among other things. A few of their issues are understandable. For example, people knowing the winners ahead of time, who aren't the accountants. While some award shows exist where the winners know ahead of time (see the People's Choice Awards), the Daytime Emmys isn't like this, and shouldn't be. It isn't as if they are pre-taping the winners' speeches, and everyone knows what is going on.

Currently according to the document on Deadline's site, people who aren't members can vote. Seriously that's strange, unless there is a back-up in allowing people in, and current employed daytime people haven't, then it makes no sense. The conflict of interest thing, in soaps well how can you judge that. If someone is a soap hopper, and has worked on all of the shows, they have major conflicts. Or if more people in a voting pool are from one soap than another the same is true, this is something that transparency is needed.  I do think everyone eligible should be able to vote for best series.

What shocked me was the whole if it seemed like the vote was not true, they would toss out the win. Well, how can they even do that, unless it was a case where the website was spammed. Again this would be a bit difficult, and in those cases there needs to be transparency as well.

I hope this gets settled, or else there will be a lot of frustrated people come Spring of 2019, when their favorites can't be on the ballot as there is no ballot.
