Y&R The Police Corruption Story & Chance's Death

The Young & the Restless did a story about drug dealing cops and corruption in the district attorney’s office. What did it achieve story-wise and how may it influence further plots.

1. Chance died; or rather Chance went into custody of WITSEC who takes care of people that are in witness protection. Nina, Heather and Chloe witnessed Chance being shot by Ronan. Nina and Phillip had an opportunity to say goodbye to their son before he left town.

2. Ronan was revealed to everyone as being the son Nina gave up for adoption making him Chance’s older half-brother. While he is staying in Genoa City to help with the corruption what kind of relationship can he develop with his mom as everyone believes he killed his brother? At least Ronan and Chance made peace, as they worked together to fake Chance’s death.

3. Cricket (or if you rather call her Christine) came between Paul and Nina. While Cricket told Nina about Chance being alive, things may have been different if from the start the family knew that Ronan was FBI and her kid. Ronan and Chance may have worked as a team from the start instead of undermining the investigation. Now that Nina has to keep the news about Chance from Paul it may be harder for them to reunite.

4. Heather was made district attorney as her boss Owen was evil drug-dealing scum. If she reopens the charges against Adam that should have ripples throughout the canvas. Heather fell for Chance, and feels some guilt over what happened, but hates Ronan for all of it. She and Paul knew Ronan was FBI, and kept it from Chance, but didn’t know he was Nina’s kid. Due to the task force, Heather and Ronan have to try and work together so Chance didn’t die in vain.

5. Chloe and Chance’s engagement ended before he “died” due to his cheating on her with Heather. Chloe figured out that Ronan was Nina’s son, and had an affair with him after smarting over what happened between Chance and Heather. She can’t forgive Ronan for the shooting and she’s sad that her daughter Delia has lost Chance as a step-parent. Chloe and Kevin have been getting closer as friends, and who can say if they will end up dating in the future.

6. With Chance just away, there is always a possibility he may return to fix things. Obviously the huge drug ring story needs to be completed before the program should go in that direction.

Heather and Chloe both believe Chance is dead, even so, their rivalry can continue as Heather can be upset that Chloe knew that Ronan was Chance’s brother, while Chloe could be angered about Heather knowing he was FBI. Kay was also hospitalized due to being so upset and not taking care of herself. Lauren even tried to reach out to Jill as she was devastated over the loss of her grandson.

These are all threads that came about during this plot. Chance survived a war zone, and got a military funeral, but that doesn’t bring him back to his family and friends. They all should wonder what would have happened if Chance hadn’t been shot on that fateful night.
