On Thursday, April 29, Todd flat lined and One Life to Live gave us a quick glimpse of what hell would be for him. His daughters and their mothers waited outside while he was being worked upon after he was beaten severely by Cole Thornhart.
The gist of the dream was Todd gave up after being accused of causing Marty Saybrooke’s miscarriage. Marty had been pushed down a flight of stairs, and Todd was believed to be the culprit. As the audience knows, he had nothing to do with it. For a change, Marty wasn’t Todd’s victim.
Once in hell, Todd was joined by his older half-sister Viki who showed him the potential future. We had Blair marrying her current beau Eli, Tea remarrying her former husband Ross Rayburn, and Starr and Cole tying the knot. Seeing his oldest child marry her boyfriend appalled him. Todd was dead due to Cole and yet Starr would stay with him.
The final straw and what made Todd fight for his life and wake up was seeing Dani’s future. Dani was getting married too, and her choice of husband was the most horrifying of all: John McBain. The daughter he barely knew was to be wed to his worst enemy. On top of that, she was heavily pregnant. So it was a shotgun wedding. Dani as an underclassman in high school having a kid with a man who was old enough to be her father and Todd thought her seeing Matthew one of her peers was bad.
Upon waking up, Todd called for Viki who wasn’t even at the hospital yet as Natalie had just gone home to tell her the news. Seeing Todd wake up was a happy moment for the women waiting for him, but that was short-lived. Todd was arrested for what happened to Marty. Considering all the crimes, Todd committed against Marty, it would be ironic if the one that causes him the trouble is the one he was not guilty of doing.
If One Life to Live was trying to make me feel sympathy for Todd, it really didn’t change my opinion on his character. Blair, Tea and Starr finding happiness is a good thing. His negative reaction to that didn’t really endear me to him. Unless the laws of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania have changed, Todd cannot have two wives. He should not be allowed to dictate whom either woman decides to marry. He can marry one or the other, and if he wants both, well the women need to decide if they would be agreeable to that idea. With Starr, I can understand why he would find fault with that. Cole would have been the man who killed him, and Star still marries him. Seeing ones daughter blame their dead parent for their death would not be a positive experience. That said a teenaged Dani involved with John McBain was disgusting, and Todd has every right to be upset over that coupling. I don’t think Tea would love the idea of her daughter engaging in sexual activities with someone so much older. If Dani was her current age, John should go to prison for statutory rape, which Tea would support instead of her being loving over the idea of her daughter falling in love with him.
I felt this little foray into Todd’s brain was just a bit fluffy. The biggest consequences of this situation are how Todd’s beating influences the relationships among Starr, Cole, Todd, Dani, Blair and Tea.
