OLTL: Goodbye Kimmie

I was planning to write about each of the One Life to Live character departures, but since Rachel's was so uneventful. She told Schuyler that she is going out of town to help a friend move. Rachel didn't even interact one last time with her mom Nora or her brother Matthew. For this reason I'm starting with Kim Andrews and summarizing her time in Llanview.

Kimberly Andrews wasn't exactly a stripper with a heart of gold, but more of one with a lust for it. She came to Llanview to help her best and as far as we know only friend Stacy Morasco. The two women worked together in Vegas and had each other’s backs. Stacy did everything she could to get and keep Rex Balsom by her side. She got pregnant, and then lost the child. Kim did what she could so Stacy would hold on to him. They plotted together to get Stacy pregnant again. Since Rex wouldn't join her in bed an additional time, and he had no idea about the miscarriage, they tried to find a new baby daddy. They drugged Schuyler, but Stacy didn't sleep with him. They asked Kyle who declined due to being gay. Kim even offered to join them if that was his pleasure. Stacy did get her former one night stand Oliver Fish to sleep with her again. Stacy became pregnant with Oliver's baby. Oliver at the time was denying his sexuality and his feelings for Kyle.

Once Stacy was pregnant for a second time, Kim helped Stacy keep the story straight. They didn’t want Stacy to lose Rex, they didn’t want Schuyler to find out he was drugged or tell anyone spending the night with Stacy, and they didn’t want Oliver Fish to realize he got Stacy pregnant. Schuyler found out that Stacy lost Rex’s child and assumed he was the dad of the new fetus. He kept his mouth shut as he was nearly as desperate for Gigi (Stacy’s sister and Rex’s lost love) as Stacy was for Rex.

Once Stacy’s situation was settled, Kim decided she needed another reason to be in Llanview. Money not love was Kim’s goal, so she looked into finding a wealthy man. Kim and Stacy decided that Kim should target the much older Clint Buchanan. The other Buchanan men were either too young like Matthew or in London (like Kevin, Joey and Cord).

Kim had some problems accomplishing this goal as she would first need to get into Clint’s world. She faked a job application claiming she had an interview planned with Jared (who was Clint’s deceased son-in-law.) Natalie, Jared’s wife, hated Kim on sight and didn’t understand why her father would give her the time of day. Clint saw through Kim’s plans, and hired her anyway even with her bogus work experience and references. The other issue was Clint was a newlywed. He had recently wed his older brother Bo’s former wife Nora. Nora and Bo were spending a lot of time together out of town due to their son Matthew, and their romantic feelings had been reignited.

Opportunity to break apart Nora and Clint came in the form of Neville. Neville is Nigel’s “identical” British cousin, who knew that Nora and Bo were back together. Discovering that Nora was “cheating” with her brother-in-law Bo, Kim needed to find a way to share this news with Clint. At this point, Clint had no reason to trust Kimberly, so she couldn’t tell him. Nigel didn’t want to break Clint’s heart even though he knew the truth and neither did Matthew or Kevin. Kim offered herself to Neville, so he’d tell Clint the truth. She dressed him up as Nigel, and Neville lowered the boom. Clint has no idea it was his manservant’s cousin who shared this information. Neville returned to England before Kim had to sleep with him.

Once Clint found out, he was not happy, and wanted revenge as Nora needed to be humiliated. Hiring Kim would be fortuitous as Clint was able to use her to get back at his duplicitous wife. Yes Nora had not slept with Bo, but she was having an emotional affair with her former husband. Of course, the argument could be made that Nora and Clint should have never gotten involved at all, though that has nothing to do with Kimberly Andrews.

On the night Nora returned to town, she found Clint in bed with Kimberly at the Buchanan Mansion. It was a set up as they weren’t together for any reason other than to upset Nora. Clint told Nora how he felt, Bo arrived and eventually they left as Clint went after them with his rifle (though no shots were fired.) Nora and Bo along with the rest of the family seemed horrified by Clint and Kim.

David found out how Kimberly gave Clint the news, and instead of firing her, he praised her. Kim was the only person who knew that showed loyalty to him. After Stacy became a target of Mitch Lawrence, Kim needed a place to stay and Clint obliged. Nora and Clint got into a fight over the mansion as it was Nora’s legally, but Kim calmed him down enough to save them from being tossed out of the mansion.

To get further revenge on Nora and Bo, their affair was revealed on New Year’s Eve to the press. Kim acting as Clint’s date and assistant gave a statement on his behalf. Bo was no longer the commissioner of police due to the affair (and Mitch threatening Dorian.) At midnight, Kimberly and Clint kissed.

Unlike most people in Kimberly’s life, Clint had her number. He saw how she plotted and instead of being horrified he was amused and charmed. As long as she was on his side, he didn’t have an issue with her actions. This seemed to be a big change from her past life in Las Vegas. Kim began to have genuine feelings for Clint and it started to be about more than money, power and prestige.

Kimberly continued to help Stacy even if she was living in the Buchanan Mansion. The two women plotted to get a drug to induce early labor by blackmailing Schuyler. He got the drug, but didn’t use it on Stacy. Kyle and Oliver became suspicious of the women. They argued, but Kyle and Oliver didn’t have proof. When Jessica was shot, Kim and Clint were on their way to having sex. Nora walked in on the duo, and gave them bad news about Mitch Lawrence kidnapping Jessica. Stacy was also taken by Mitch. Once Mitch discovered that Stacy was not pregnant with Rex’s child, she sent her out in a blizzard. Stacy made her way to Viki’s cabin in the woods. At the cabin, Stacy and Gigi bonded over the birth of the baby. Kim made it to Stacy after Gigi took the little girl away to receive medical help. Stacy went out when Kim wasn’t looking, fell through the ice and died. Kimberly was devastated over the lost of her best friend. She left the very expensive boots Clint bought her at the lake.

After Stacy’s death, Kimberly vowed to get custody of her best friend’s newborn daughter Sierra Rose. Stacy had wanted to name her the guardian of the child if anything happened to her, but Kim wouldn’t agree to it. Once Kim realized that the only person who got along with Stacy was her, she decided she wanted to give Sierra Rose a home. To get custody of the child, Kimberly decided the only way was if she was Mrs. Clint Buchanan. When she proposed, Clint had given her a replacement pair of boots, but they were not enough for that question to be popped.

Kim explained to Clint the reasons for wanting to marry him. He agreed, but stated that there would be a pre-nuptial agreement. Kim mulled over the terms of the ironclad contract and agreed to them. The only stipulation was she needed to stay sexually faithful to Clint, as if she cheated she would leave the marriage with nothing.

Two of Kim’s “friends” from Vegas, Leah and Laudine came to town to be the attendants. They had some fun off camera with Clint’s son Kevin. Kim’s time as mistress of the manor was short, but their wedding ceremony was even shorter. While Clint was her “sugar daddy”, she only gave him said sugar after they were married.

David came back to Llanview to get Kimberly to leave Clint. He was convinced that she would lower his inheritance and blackmailed her with a dossier. We didn’t see the contents of the file, but that was enough for Kim to depart. This information may have hurt Buchanan Enterprises, and his bank account. That said if and when Clint finds out what David did, there would be yet another reason for hatred between uncle and nephew. David watched as Kimberly convinced Clint their marriage need to end. She told him the truth about Sierra Rose and how she knew that Oliver Fish was the father of the child. Since they could no longer get custody of the baby, there was no reason for them to remain together. He said that it didn’t matter as she was just trying to help her friend. Kim was giving Clint every out of the relationship, but he wanted to stay with her. To end the relationship, Kim lied and stated that someone from her past came to town and they slept together. Clint said that was the breaking point, and told her to leave. He admitted it was good she shared this information now before he started to really care about her. It seemed like they both felt affection for the other, but neither would cop to those feelings.

With tears in her eyes, Kimberly Andrews left town. She vowed to get her husband back someday. In the future the character of Kimberly may return with Amanda Setton in the role or perhaps they will recast the part with another performer. The door is wide open for the character. A lot of viewers never expected to like Kim, but they did. Kim and Clint had become a guilty pleasure couple to some as well even with the actors having more than 30 years between them in age. The comedic bent of the character provided some fun amidst the drama of One Life to Live.
