Below are my thoughts about the story about Lani, Eli and their baby.
Last week, on "Days of Our Lives", they had a special episode mainly focusing on Lani's dream scenario as she had to have an early c-section due to placenta previa. There was a 90% chance the baby would live, but he didn't make it. While undergoing the surgery, Lani imagined what her pregnancy would have been like if JJ had been the father instead of being conceived during a one-night-stand. Lani was happy in this alternate reality, and wished it was true.
On the June 25, 2018 episode, the baby was named posthumously after his two grandfathers David Banning and Abe Carver. Lani and Eli were with their child, as they held him for this short time. A priest arrived to give rites to the baby, as that episode ended.
The situation is sad, but I wasn't a fan of Lani getting pregnant to begin with, as like it was said on screen the baby would always be a reminder that Lani and JJ became estranged. She slept with someone else when he was suicidal, as she had the mistaken belief that he had chosen to be with his former girlfriend Gabi. I hope if Lani does have another child that the program will take time to go in that direction.
