Y&R Memorial Day 2018

"The Young and the Restless" was the only US soap to do a Memorial Day themed episode, on the actual holiday May 28, 2018. Below are my thoughts about it, which is out of order.

The Hamilton Winters Group hosted a barbecue for charity. Unfortunately the original caterers became ill, and members of the Hamilton Winters companies had to pitch in and cook instead. Mariah and Tessa made Hilary and Devon participate in the food service, and Tessa was also the musical entertainment. It was her first live appearance since the plagiarism scandal. Kyle seemingly has an interest in Tessa, but was surprised about what nearly happened between Tessa and Mariah. He backed off, and realized that it seems like Tessa likes Mariah now too. Having Kyle find it hot, was a bit annoying though at least he didn't suggest anything worse. He also was the eye candy walking around without his shirt, and underage Mattie seemed to appreciate it.

Faith found out about Sharon and Nick reconciling. She wasn't thrilled due to what happened the last time. She was okay with how things were with them co-parenting as friends, and wonders if it could go wrong again. Mariah tried to be there for her little sis.

Nikki and Victor kissed before going to the event, and wanted to be there for Neil. Victor who isn't a vet gave the speech about vets, though considering Jack's emotional state, he shouldn't have been giving the speech. It is too bad that all of the characters in the police force and or former military were not on screen for the episode or no longer on the program. Victor did pay the drink bill.

Shauna arrives late, and she and Charlie share their first kiss while alone. They went back to the party holding hands. Hilary and Devon had a good time together though they hoped by next year they would have a child. On this episode for a change, Lily and Hilary weren't snide with each other, even if Lily did mention to Neil about Hilary having designs on Devon.

Even though it was a holiday, work talk happened about Jack leaving Jabot, Kyle staying, which Victor thought was a good idea, and the news that Victor wants Nick to be COO.  Victoria's happiness about her brother being back at Newman probably will be short-lived due to Victor's lastest decision.

The episode didn't end with fake fireworks, which was surprising, but I liked that even though in some places Memorial Day is the official start of fireworks season.

Have a somewhat stand-alone episode on the holiday was a good idea. My favorite part was Shauna and Charlie, as it is nice to see a young couple on Y&R. With Mariah and Tessa, I'm in a "I'll believe they'll actually have a story" when I see it, kind of person, so there is that. With Hilary and Devon, if they are allowed to be happy with a baby and no complications, I'll be stunned due to how not-soapy opera like that would be.
