Since One Life to Live has aired its Christmas episode already, I decided to blog about it now. Some of the other shows have yet to start with Christmas episodes and some are still celebrating the holiday, and I will hopefully write more about them after I’ve seen them.
This year in Llanview on OLTL, the main events were at La Boulet, Llanfair and Angel Square. While we saw a lot of characters on this episode, some people were missing including Bo, Nora, Matthew, Todd, Tea, Dani, Marty and Destiny. The episode this year took a pretty silly tone to offset the recent sadness, though not all was well in Llanview.
The show opened with many characters in Angel Square. As Dorian is the Mayor she opened the holiday for the town. Blair, Jack, Sam, and Kelly were there to support her. Rex, Gigi and Shane also were attendance, as were Aubrey, Joey, Clint and Vimal. Rex called Clint the grinch, Vimal finally knew what Rex looked like. Clint ignored Aubrey, but kissed Kelly on the cheek as they talked about Zane. Joey gave Kelly goggles so she would avoid getting lemon in her eye, while Aubrey talked about the beautiful bracelet she got from Joey. The Cramers went back to La Boulet, while the rest (except Vimal) mentioned in this paragraph went to Llanfair.
Viki wanted to have a good Christmas, but Echo being at her home was making things awkward. Viki and Echo fought over the turkey and it fell to the ground. In frustration, Viki turned to Dorian for help to get Echo out of the house for the holiday. Dorian offered Echo a photography job, but more on that later.
John gave Natalie an engagement ring in front of the Christmas tree at Llanfair. Bree was on and danced for them along with Brody and Jessica. Aubrey and Natalie were finally introduced as well. Echo left to go to Dorian’s, but on her way out mentioned to Clint what he was missing. Later Viki asked why Clint seemed upset, so perhaps Echo was right and he would like some sort of relationship even if it is Rex that is his kid. Clint and Aubrey had an odd moment in the kitchen, but thankfully he did not ask her to sleep with his brother Bo or give her any sort of other odd proposition. With everyone assembled Brody read the Twas the Night before Christmas in the living room. Viki and Charlie had a good few moments without having to deal with Echo being a bother. Currently all of Viki and Clint’s kids in Llanview are engaged, but at this point, we have no idea if any or all of them wll make it to the altar and say “I do.”
At La Boulet, Starr and Langston spoke about their current situations. Off screen, Starr had taken Hope to see Cole at the prison. It was hard on the little girl to visit her father that way as she doesn’t fully understand the situation. Cole’s gifts also had to be searched before he was allowed to have them. Both of them wanted to avoid the Cramer celebration so they went to Angel Square. They ran into Bobby Ford and James. James and Ford were dealing with how their brother Nate had been arrested for the killing of their abusive father. James gave Bobby a shirt, which had been Bobby’s and James had stolen it. Bobby then admitted the shirt was the only thing he left with his younger brother when he moved away from Ohio. This Christmas was better than others in the past as at least they didn’t have to duck from beer bottles their father threw at them.
Jack tried to convince his younger brother Sam, that Santa Claus wasn’t a real person. More than once Blair did her best to hush up Jack. Unbeknownst to the adults, the two of them decided to open the box Blair got from crazy Eli out in the snow. The boys got the biggest shock seeing Santa Claus on the roof. It wasn’t really Santa Claus, but Echo DiSavoy in a Santa suit getting stuck in the chimney. Aunt Dorian had tricked Echo to go on the roof of their home and locked her out there. Since Echo was cold and didn’t have a coat, she put on the Claus outfit. The boys realized what was happening and doused the fire in the fireplace before Echo fell into it. Blair, Kelly and Dorian were shocked by what happened though it was ironic as the remark about hearing a Echo was made right before she fell to the ground.
The show ended with the longer version of the credit crawl, showing a tree in the background. While this episode did not include the full cast, a lot of different characters were on screen and their relationships were discussed and shown. People didn’t become best friends due to the holiday, but at least there was no extreme violence. I appreciated that the program allowed for some laughs and like soaps of old ended with a song.
