Y&R Billy & Victoria Marry Again

On Thursday, Billy Abbott and Victoria Newman got married again on The Young and the Restless. It seems like most people in town are against their union, but many of them still appeared at the ceremony. This entry is recounting the actions from when they moved in together through the wedding.

Victoria got into an argument with her father Victor, quit her job at the family company and moved from the Newman Ranch. She was staying with Billy, but a trailer was just too small especially if his daughter Delia or her son Reed would be there. They decided to go house shopping and Gloria ended up being their friendly realtor. The first house styled like the sitcom “Father Knows Best” was a perfect fit, so they decided to buy it together. An aside, I looked into Father Knows Best and read on fatherknowsbest.com that the show was at one time related to The Young & the Restless. Screen Gems used to own the rights to syndicate Father Knows Best, and Screen Gems is now Sony, who owns Y&R. The show was broadcast on CBN (which eventually became the Family channel and now is ABCFamily) back in the 80s and 90s, which makes watching reruns as children not impossible. I thought it was odd they were talking about Father Knows Best as I don’t recall watching it, and I'm a television junkie, so I had to research.

On the day that Victoria and Billy moved in together, it got to be too much for him. He left the house without saying goodbye which upset Victoria. Bad enough to get pregnant accidently, worse to have the man leave with no explanation. Billy had a few moments with his late father John, where they spoke about what matters in life. Of course this reminded me of why I miss John Abbott. Billy returned to the house to find out whether or not Victoria was pregnant. Whatever happened was fine with him as he wanted to marry her either way. As too much time passed after she took the pregnancy test, it was positive. She did another test, while she was in the bathroom her parents Nikki and Victor came for a visit. Victoria came down happily as she was pregnant. Her parents were shocked by both bits of news.

Victoria and Billy marrying made them very happy, as it should, but their families and some former love interests were less than thrilled. It was sweet that her son Reed was glad for his mother. Nikki supported the marriage just because she loves her daughter. When people reference the pregnancy as why they would wed, you know they aren’t enthusiastic about the idea. Both Jill and Jack had to be convinced to go by well-meaning relatives.

Surrounded by family and friends except for Victor, Billy and Victoria, dressed in a gown that looked out of the black and white television era, had a ceremony in front of their new home. Jana was the bridesmaid, Rafe the best man, Nick walked his sister down the aisle, Summer, Reed and Delia were also in the wedding party. Judge Anderson was a call back to Father Knows Best as the actress playing that part was Elinor Donahue. The duo decided on getting tattoos on their fingers instead of rings. Hopefully this time, the artist won’t have a heart attack in the middle of the job and leave “Victor” on Billy’s hand. The fact that Victor was willing to pay to correct the tattoo may have lulled them into a false sense of security.

Unlike the last time, this ceremony was legal, but just barely. Victoria was taken away from the wedding in handcuffs. Victor got his revenge, by having his daughter arrested.

While I understand why Victor doesn’t like the Abbott family, and wouldn’t like his daughter with Billy specifically due to his issues, his choices are not going to go over well with his family. Victor’s need for control caused him to turn his daughter in for doing something she was asked to do. Making your child a scapegoat for choosing a love interest is a bit much. Victoria and Billy are both adults and parents themselves. They should be allowed to make their own choices and mistakes without the interference of their families.

The Newmans and the Abbotts are rivals; fights are to be expected even if they are interrelated. The marriage of Victoria and Billy may be the beginning of a new stage for everyone, but it may cause a brand new war or eventually create peace.
