GH: The Impact of Sonny Going to Rome

On General Hospital, Sonny left Port Charles again after being accused of shooting Johnny. Instead of following Bernie’s plan, he decided to go to Rome. I want to discuss in this blog, what impact it has had so far and where else I feel this should be felt in Port Charles.

Dante vouched for Sonny, and he ran without bail. While Dante still wants to help Sonny, he is stuck again. The parallel of how Sonny shot Dante in the chest to what happened with Johnny must have been intentional on the part of the program. Dante cares for Sonny even if they are on opposite sides of the law.

Michael got a goodbye from Sonny before he departed on the plane. He cannot share this information with his siblings, as he doesn’t want to get into trouble. It is not worth it for him to go back to prison due to having a few moments with his father. Sonny being on the run impacts Michael’s life as the person who his younger siblings Morgan and Kristina look to about all things Sonny.

Kristina has felt torn. While she’s relieved her father isn’t around to harass her or embarrass her further, his departure may mean he doesn’t love her. Kristina’s feelings for her father could be easily defined as hate to love. She wants acceptance from Sonny, and yet she sees him as someone who is abusive and someone who treated her as secondary to his sons. With Sonny being away will Kristina finally get past her pain and get her life back on track?

Of all of Sonny’s kids, Morgan seems to be well adjusted even if he was born right after Sonny shot his mother in the head. Morgan has a loving stepfather in Jax. Other than being disappointed in never being able to go and see a baseball game with Sonny, Dante and Michael, we haven’t been told of any other issues he has had. I wonder does Morgan get teased or mistreated by his peers due to his dad.

As Sonny’s number two, Jason has more on his plate with Sonny out of the country. How will he handle the added responsibility and will it affect things in his relationship with Sam? Unlike Sonny, Jason and Johnny get along with one another. Will the mob war in Port Charles actually calm down for this reason?

Carly as the mother of two of Sonny’s children has to deal with the fallout for Michael and Morgan. Of course, since Sonny went to see Brenda it hits her in another way as well. She had fears that were allayed by Jax, that he would go rescue Brenda from herself and Sonny. Thankfully both Carly and Jax have seemed to evolve from that behavior.

Alexis has to deal with Sonny’s departure as Kristina’s mom. She tries to see things from Sonny’s side, but at times seems to be ambivalent. Caring for someone doesn’t mean agreeing with what they do.

As Sonny’s long ago girlfriend and being Dante’s mother, Olivia has a different perspective. She loved the boy before he became a mobster. Of course, as she loves Johnny now, all she wants is peace. If she could stop the fighting between Johnny and Sonny, her life would be really great. Unlike most of the others (outside of Sonny’s kids and Sam), she doesn’t know Brenda.

With Sonny crashing into Brenda’s life, we don’t know if it will be for ill or for good? She is engaged to a man named Murphy and her life is in danger. Brenda and Sonny were an extremely passionate duo. He was her first love, and nothing could change that. Will their interactions leave them broken or help to heal their issues? Brenda has admitted she still loves him, but it has been a long time. When they hopefully are both back in Port Charles it will be interesting to see how everyone will them being friends.
