On Days of Our Lives, Chloe is pregnant and it looks like Philip is the biological father. Stephanie, Philip’s former fiancée, figured out they had an affair. To protect her relationship with Nathan, she decided to find out about Chloe’s child, with the help of a friendly hacker named Ian. When they first looked at the results, it showed that Daniel wasn’t the father, but when they returned to change the data, it stated Daniel was the dad. So who changed the paternity test and is it even possible there was a switch back?
As an audience member, I don’t know who would risk a paternity swap as very few people even know Chloe cheated on Daniel. They include Philip and Chloe (obviously), Stephanie, Nathan, Carly, Nicole and Father Matt. The amount of people who know that Chloe slept with Philip is even a smaller number: just Chloe, Philip and Stephanie. It is possible; someone else figured it out and is not talking.
Chloe changing the test makes little sense. If she had the technical skills, she would have never allowed Carly to give it to her. Presumably, she would have been able to fake the whole thing and create DNA results for Carly to see with the data in your favor.
Philip would have raised the child with his best friend at the risk of destroying his marriage to Melanie. He gave up his rights to another child, would he do it again? It is possible, but if he wanted control, wouldn’t he have helped Chloe himself instead of Carly doing the test? Instead he left the paternity news up to Chloe and Carly to discover.
Carly has reasons why she would change the paternity of Chloe’s fetus, but it would go against her behavior of trying to get Chloe to tell Daniel the truth about her having a one-night stand. Years earlier, Carly was forced to give away her child Melanie with Daniel. By allowing Daniel to raise another man’s child, would she be atoning for her actions? She was the reason Vivian approached Chloe, which created the chain reaction. Of course, if she knew Philip cheated on Melanie, then she would be lying again to both her daughter and her former lover.
Nathan seemed to find out about the pregnancy after the paternity test was administered. So even if he is a doctor, changing the test would be a stretch. While Father Matt is a priest and Chloe took the DNA test at a Catholic hospital, I can’t see him changing the results. If Days went in that direction, I would be flummoxed. Stephanie had the intent, but missed her chance. Nicole would help Chloe in that way, but seems to have been too busy at the time to take action. Brady, as Philip’s nephew, and Chloe’s former husband only found out about the pregnancy after the test. He would have the resources to do it.
At this point, I am wondering if the person who changed the DNA test is someone who knew about the affair and pregnancy, but those of us in the audience had no idea they knew. For example, Victor upon seeing a pregnant Chloe asked if Daniel was the father. Would that be a clue that he changed the paternity? Yes that’s a jump, but I can see Days having it be someone outside the main suspects. If the DNA test was a double swap, positive/negative/positive, then everything is up in the air. Hopefully, this child will live though if they are Philip’s child, it may be hard for them to find a date. It seems like half the town is related to Philip’s parents: Kate and Victor. In the future, I hope we find out who the father of Chloe’s child is and get a reasonable explanation for the DNA shenanigans.
