Days: Vivian Marrying Victor

Last week on Days of Our Lives, Victor Kiriakis married Vivian Alamain. The duo’s nuptials were met with more grief than glee as no one except for Vivian felt this was a very good idea.

Vivian and Victor shared a past as many years ago, Vivian implanted herself with the embryo that belonged to Victor and Kate. To viewers that embryo is now better known as Philip Kiriakis. Victor’s reason for marrying Vivian had to do with love, but not his love for her. Victor married Vivian to keep her in check. As long as they are together, Vivian will not target any of Victor’s family. Considering Vivian’s plots, which have caused grave injury; it is understandable that Victor wants Vivian out of commission. That said, as an audience member, I have sympathy for everyone involved as even with all the bad things Vivian has done, I don’t fully hate her. Victor isn’t exactly the most moral of people, and has been guilty of crimes of his own.

To get guests for the wedding, Vivian called everyone over to the mansion based upon a lie. She used Henderson’s phone and sent a text message stating that Victor was in trouble. Victor’s family all ran to his side. While they were relieved that Victor’s health was not in jeopardy, they were not happy about the reasons behind them being summoned. The person most supportive and understanding of Vivian and Victor’s marriage is Maggie Horton. She offered to help Victor run away from the event, with the excuse that he could help Greece deal with their financial problems, which considering things wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Maggie understands Victors need to protect his own. At the last Kiriakis wedding, Vivian’s actions caused the bride Melanie to be shot by her biological mother Carly. Maggie is the reason everyone stayed for the ceremony as no one wanted to watch.

During the wedding itself, we saw the pained looks of Victor and Vivian’s guests, and quick flashbacks to earlier ceremonies. Three of the guests had once been married to Victor; they are Carly, Kate and Nicole. None of those marriages survived and only the one to Kate was based on an actual relationship. Currently Kate is married to Victor’s nemesis, Stefano, Carly is living with Bo, who is Victor’s son, and Nicole is in love, but not with Victor’s grandson Brady. We also saw a flash of Victor and Vivian getting married on a prior occasion. A photo of all of Victor’s former and current wives was taken during the reception.

After the ceremony, Victor ignored Vivian, and spent much of his time talking to Maggie. He even left the reception and went to Maggie’s home. Maggie had been crying as she still misses her late husband Mickey. She felt that he would have gotten a kick out of that crazy wedding. I appreciated that even though Mickey is gone, that he has not been forgotten. Victor and Maggie spoke about how Victor’s daughter Isabella lives on due to a scholarship that was created in her name. So in honor of Mickey, a grant for law students will now be created.

Some viewers have begun to invest in the idea of Victor and Maggie having a romantic relationship. As truly Vivian and Victor’s marriage cannot last. The assumption had been that Victor would perhaps reunite with Caroline, Bo’s mother after her husband Shawn’s death, but nothing has come of that beyond Caroline's extreme reaction to the news. I find it refreshing to see characters like Vivian, Victor and Maggie have airtime and story that isn’t solely about the younger people in their lives.
