Days: Inside Salem "The Days of Our Lives" Podcast Episode 9

The ninth episode of Inside Salem premiered this past weekend. Below are my thoughts.

The ninth episode had an interview with Drake Hogestyn (John) and the best scenes of the week (with Leo and Diana, and Ben and Ciara, Jordan kidnapping Charlotte and Chad/Abby). The second portion was an tour of the studio with Eric Martsolf.

The interview with Drake was about his many years on the show and at the beginning you could hear Dee Hall (Marlena) in the background. He spoke with Michael Fairman about his audition, and how they weren't sure about hiring him as he looked too much like Ricky Nelson, who had just died in a plane crash. There was also chatter about how Drake had all his magazine covers in tupperwear until he decided to just digitally photograph everything. (What I heard this I laughed as I have a lot of magazines from years past in plastic containers, paper boxes, and binders in acid free sleeves.) There was also chatter about how Drake remembered things and had a character wall (sounded like what they do to solve crimes on Days). He mentioned how Days used to tape with numerous rehearsals and now it is just in a few hours. There was also a reference and a clip to the odd relationship that John and Roman share today.

Eric Martsolf took Michael Fairman around the studio, and Linsey Godfrey was there for a part of it. We got to meet a stage manager at the show, and there were references to different places. Eric admitted sometimes borrowing wardrobe for public appearances. Linsey said she did as well as her own clothes are nothing like what Sara wears.

The second part again was something I wish I could have seen instead of heard. A studio tour is a fun idea, but seeing is a big part of such an experience. At least for a change we actually had a crew member speak. I hope that idea continues in the future.
