Y&R: Sharon Remembers Her Past

On July 4, 2011, The Young & the Restless did a special episode for the holiday focusing upon Sharon Collins Newman (Sharon Case) and her past. This show summarized the history of the character and included clips from the 90s until present day.

The impetus of Sharon remembering was her new relationship with Sam the veterinarian, who knows her only as Sheri Coleman. Sharon on the run from the authorities happened upon Sam’s land. After spending weeks together as friends, they became romantically intimate. Sharon decided she couldn’t lie to Sam about her past and wrote a letter to him sharing the details of her life. With voice overs and flashbacks we saw her point of view. There were present day moments shown of Genoa City too with Nick, Adam and Noah.

We saw clips of early scenes between Sharon and Nick as dating teens that were in a quadrangle with long forgotten characters Matt and Amy. Nick confronted Sharon over having a child out of wedlock and giving it up for adoption, while she allowed him to assume she had never had sex. Nikki hated Sharon dating her son and how it will hurt his life. Matt raped Sharon and lied about it to protect Nick. Nick and Sharon in the courthouse talked before he went to prison due to Matt. They didn’t only show drama. We saw happy times when Nick and Sharon got married and having Noah. They also showed Cassie, the daughter Sharon gave up for adoption became a part of their lives. She was loved by Nick as if he was her biological father. Then it went back to dramatic moments and how Cassie’s death caused Nick and Sharon to fall apart. We saw Sharon seeing Nick and Phyllis together in the barn. How she retaliated, her relationship with Jack was mentioned in brief. Sharon and Nick getting back together in Paris and having Faith were shown. The supposed death of the child Cassie said they would have broke up Nick and Sharon for good. Sharon and Adam’s relationship and how he became a better person due to loving her was another focus. How she “died” was the last of the material.

All in all this was a decent summary of the character of Sharon, though of course I would have loved to see additional older clips. Since Sharon ripped up the letter she wrote while Sam was sleeping, the trip down memory lane may not impact the story directly as Sam still has no idea who the real Sheri is.
