Even though Laura has gone to France for treatment, her lucidness caused a problem for Luke and Tracy.
Seeing Laura with her mother Leslie, sons Nik and Lucky and Lulu was a treat. The character decided it would be better to let go of Luke and live at a facility to monitor her situation. There is no guarantee that the LS49 would continue to work or if she would return to her previous state. Before leaving Port Charles, Luke and Laura said goodbye. While they still love one another, so much time has passed and Luke went through a lot without her. Tracy instead of being thrilled that Laura decided to leave Luke to her is angry.
It is understandable that Tracy's first reaction was mistrust. This is the mythical Luke and Laura relationship. They fought so many odds to be together. Laura disappeared in a fog and returned to Luke.
Eventually Luke was able to convince Tracy his feelings for her were legitimate and that Laura wasn't an issue between them. He was in a different place, and while he would always love Laura, their relationship was the one that he wanted to have.
Following Tracy to the Dominican Republic didn't do it, neither did faking drunkenness or a heart attack. His giving up on making profit on New Year's Eve at the Haunted Star did. The Quartermaines and Epiphany even wanted Luke and Tracy to reunite as Tracy was making everyone miserable. It is never a good sign when members of the staff of General Hospital allow someone to fake an illness for the sake of the town.
If Laura ever does return to Port Charles with or without Scott Baldwin (as he hide on Laura's plane to France), will Luke and Laura's relationship be revisited. Could Luke and Laura find love again even if they are different people than those who fell in love all those years ago? Would Tracy feel so threatened by the past, that her marriage to Luke would be destroyed? Even though it felt like Laura and Luke are done for good, those questions remain.
