GH: Thanksgiving 2008 - The Butterfly Effect

This year's special Thanksgiving episode on General Hospital gave us a glimpse of what life would have been like if Robin and Patrick hadn't gotten involved romantically when they did.

While this was a fantasy episode, this wasn't as humor-filled as years past like the Quartermaine's pizza-filled Thanksgiving Day. Seeing Robin and Patrick with other people seemed sad. Neither character seemed fulfilled or happy with other mates.

Robin returned to Port Charles from a trip in Paris. She gave gifts to her gal pals, Lainey and Kelly as well as a much sweeter acting Epiphany. The women told her about the new neurologist Patrick Drake. Ironically Robin met Patrick in the locker room in this dream, as he was having sex with Leyla. Robin felt she could do better than him.

In this dream, Robin saw herself with Matt Hunter and Patrick had relationships with both Carly and Elizabeth. Patrick and Robin couldn't stand each other and Matt was a lot less sullen than the guy who is in Port Charles today.

Carly enjoyed being with Patrick, but it wasn't right. His relationship with Liz went nowhere and it was just for fun. He couldn't be there for her son Cameron (Jake didn't exist in this reality), though in a nice surprise Dr. Alan Quartermaine was still alive. Robin lost Matt to her cousin Maxie. Maxie felt that she knew Matt from high school, which was a call back to when Kristen Storms and Jason Cook worked together on Days of Our Lives and went to Salem High.

By the end of the dream, Robin and Patrick are both alone, and share a dance to their song. Once Robin woke up, Patrick and Robin decide to get married after Christmas. That way baby Emma's parents could spend the holiday on her instead of on their wedding.

This was a decent stand alone episode, that showed us some possible pairings. It was a nice break from the "regular" stories. If someone who wasn't a regular viewer, saw this episode, though they would be extremely confused if they missed the opening segment where Robin fell asleep.
