- You are glad that your show is pre-empted or a rerun is aired in place of a new episode due to a national holiday.
- You start calling TPTB (The Powers that Be), by another name TIIC (Those Idiots in Charge), and that is when you are being polite as the other names you have for them cannot be used in mixed company.
- You wish the aforementioned TIIC would lose their jobs, because you can't see it ever getting worse and then it does.
- You are glad when your favorite performers aren't on because that means their characters can't be ruined by bad writing.
- You are happy when your favorite performers don't return to a particular soap or get another gig, because you would rather see them working somewhere else.
- When you try to say something positive about your show, the only things you can come up with have to do with the actors, their outfits, their hair style, or their makeup.
- You get excited by photographs of actors no longer on a show being used.
- You get excited when characters that are dead, seldom on or no longer appearing on a soap are mentioned on screen.
- You remember feeling that it couldn't get worse, and it has.
- Watching clips of older episodes, flashbacks and the like while making you feel good are also tinged with sadness, anger or frustration or all of the above.
- You read comments in a soap magazine or on-line that are negative about your show and you are nodding your head.
- You get excited to see soap alums do day player parts and enjoy that more than the majority of the regular cast.
- You get more enjoyment over some advertisement with a particular performer that airs during a show than over the actual show.
- You feel that the best writing occurs for characters under the age of five or for members of the animal kingdom.
These are just some of the signs that a soap is making someone unhappy. Sadly for many these kind of feelings lead to no longer watching daytime.
