Love in the Afternoon Super Feud Special- Watching Family Feud from February 1982

For two weeks in May, GSN aired two weeks of special episodes of Family Feud from February 1982. At that time, Family Feud aired as part of ABC's daytime line-up, so they cross promoted their soaps on the game show. The soaps aired on ABC at that time were All My Children, Edge of Night, General Hospital, One Life to Live and Ryan's Hope. Whatever money the teams made went to charity that was chosen by the actors on each particular team. The first week all five teams played twice. The two teams that raised the least amount of money played on the fifth show as a tie-breaker. The team that won on Friday would continue on to play the second week while the losing team on Friday stopped.

The teams consisted of the following actors and the characters they played at the time they were on Family Feud. It was surprising how many of the people still are in the soaps today outside of the RH and EON teams. With SoapNet, the RH team should be familiar as they've showed the early years on that channel.

AMC: Susan Lucci (Erica Kane), Ruth Warrick (Phoebe), Peter Bergman (Cliff Warner), Taylor Miller (Nina Cortlandt) and Darnell Williams (Jesse Hubbard)

EON: Anne Flood (Nancy), Lori Laughlin (Jody), Mark Arnold (Gavin), Irving Allen Lee (Calvin) and Sharon Gabet (Raven)

GH: Stuart Damon (Alan), Leslie Charleson (Monica), Doug Sheehan (Joe Kelly), Sharon Wyatt (Tiffany Hill) and Robin Mattson (Heather)

OLTL: Erika Slezak (Viki), Robin Strasser (Dorian), Bob Woods (Bo), Brynn Thayer (Jenny) and Gerald Anthony (Marco Dane)

RH: John Gabriel (Seneca), Helen Gallagher (Maeve), Randall Edwards (Delia), Michael Levin (Jack) and Louise Shaffer (Rae)

At the end of the first week, GH was knocked out of the competition. The money they raised went to cystic fibrosis, and Richard Dawson (the host) was nice enough to give them extra money. They raised money for that charity as someone they knew had just died of the disease.

Some of the things mentioned during the shows may be of interest even today. Darnell Williams was on AMC eight months at the time of the taping of Family Feud. These Family Feud episodes were taped over a weekend in California. Susan Lucci talked about her new baby. Seeing Peter Bergman playing with the AMC team, reminded me of his past before Y&R. Bob Woods was wearing a cowboy hat, and the group charade was him holding a noose over Robin Strasser's head, while the others watched. Considering what is going on OLTL now, Dorian plotting to hurt the Buchanan's, Bo's actions make sense.

The final two teams were Ryan's Hope and One Life to Live. The Ryan's Hope family defeated One Life to Live and won the final $10,000. The money Ryan's Hope raised went to Second Harvest.
