SoapNet Sunday Night Movie - How to Marry a Billionaire

Over Memorial Day weekend, I decided to watch one of the SoapNet movies. I'm not sure if it was a good idea or not. as it was called, How to Marry a Billionaire: A Christmas Tale. I'm not sure if I understand the logic of airing a holiday movie over the first weekend of summer.

I like holiday movies even ones on the cheesy side and admit to watching more than my share between Thanksgiving and January. It is too early even for Christmas in July, so I think the timing is just strange.

The basic premise is three friends are down on their luck, so they decide to change their fates, by getting involved with wealthy women. This movie is a remake of a 1953 film called How to Marry a Millionaire whose cast included Marilyn Monroe and Lauren Bacall.

The friends are played by John Stamos (Tom), Josh Malina (Mark) and Shemar Moore (Jason). Two of the three main characters are played by soap alums, which at least gives it one reason for being on SoapNet. In this movie, the three guys are down on their luck and decide to change their lives.

Jason is an out of work actor, who gets a job to housesit a mansion on the beach. He invites his buddies Tom and Mark along for the fun and to help out with Lipo the dog.

Tom gets involved with Tiffany, who is really shallow though very wealthy. At the beach, he meets a painter named Jenny (played by Gabrielle Anwar from Burn Notice). Unbeknownst to him, Jenny is wealthy. He plans to become a trophy husband, but by the end he realizes that is the wrong thing for him. The Christmas miracle happens and he can't go through with the wedding.

Jason gets involved with someone as shallow as he is and starts to date Tiffany. He got a great television role, so no more housesitting for him. Tiffany's parents played by Dabney Coleman and Rhea Perlman accept Jason due to his new gig.

Mark is a really unhappy teacher, and ends up finding a girlfriend. The two of them decide that their relationship is not working. Mark then finds a soulmate in another man named Gunther played by Days alum Roark Critchlow.

This movie was pretty harmless, though I doubt I would have watched it if it hadn't been on SoapNet. I'd prefer if they would show more soaps on the network, but if I was flipping around and saw this I may have left the channel on in confusion due to seeing a holiday movie outside of the month of December.
