GH: It May Not Be the Nurses Ball

Twice in recent months the denizens of Port Charles have partook in Karaoke at Jake's, the dive bar in town. While I miss the Nurses Ball for its humor, good times and music, these sing-alongs have in some ways replaced it especially they continue to occur on a semi-regular basis.

Spinelli and Maxie's wedding was canceled, but they had their reception. As Spin showed Maxie his love via song, during the first Karaoke night, at this one, everyone else showed their support for the couple with the song Spinelli sang to Maxie "I Wanna Know What Love Is".

I feel the reason these scenes struck a chord was because they were fun, many characters were interacting and no one was seriously injured. General Hospital can have an event were people are enjoying themselves without weapons, awesome. Please let this trend continue, as while they aren't a sweeps stunt to attract new viewers, these are exactly the kind of scenes that reward current viewers. Not every large cast episode should be a potential Emmy reel.

Seeing the girls do the Pussycat Dolls and Robin and Patrick singing "I Had the Time of My life" at the first event was great. At the reception we had three different main routines. Mac and Patrick sang "Macho Men" with an assist from Coleman, who then made out with Kate. Considering Mac and Patrick’s relationship, how they bonded was admirable. Ethan performing "Need You Tonight" by INXS, since they are an Australian band of course, and Jax seemed to love it, which made it funny. Morgan and Molly singing as M&M did "ABC", which reminded me of what station I was watching. As these scenes went on the rest of the characters were joining in and seemed to have a great time. The feeling was contagious and I was disappointed when the party ended.

What I like about Karaoke Nights:

1. We find out the hidden (or not) talents of particular actors.

2. If someone isn't a great singer, it doesn't matter, as it is Karaoke. If someone was painfully bad at the Nurse’s Ball, it was distressing as it was a charity event.

3. The possibility of unique character interaction as so many various characters are in the scenes. If we can't have star studded, galas due to budget issues for clothing and such.

What I miss about the Nurses Ball, which was held from 1994 - 2001.

1. The idea of the town getting together for the greater good.

2. The money raised for charity in the real world and the education aspect about AIDS.

3. Lucy Coe's outfits

So all in all, I like seeing almost everyone hang out and sing Karaoke. Port Charles can be shown as a community with various families, couples and friends spend time together doing a leisurely activity, where nothing goes horribly wrong, and stories are advanced.
