Thoughts about the Daytime Emmy Nominees 2020

The Daytime Emmy nominees were announced today and the virtual ceremony will be in June. Below is who was nominated and some thoughts. As usual every soap was nominated for the main categories.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES

Finola Hughes (Anna Devane, “General Hospital”)
Heather Tom (Katie Logan, “The Bold and the Beautiful”)
Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Forrester, “The Bold and the Beautiful”)
Maura West (Ava Jerome, “General Hospital”)
Arianne Zucker (Nicole Walker, “Days of our Lives”)

Last year's winner,  Jacqueline MacInnes Wood as Steffy on B&B is not nominated. We have all four shows reflected in the nominations.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

Steve Burton (Jason Morgan, “General Hospital”)
Jon Lindstrom (Kevin/Ryan Collins, “General Hospital”)
Thorsten Kaye (Ridge Forrester, “The Bold and the Beautiful”)
Thaao Penghlis (Tony DiMera, “Days of our Lives”)
Jason Thompson (Billy Abbott, “The Young and the Restless”)

Last year Maurice Benard as Sonny from GH won, and he isn't even nominated. The only person who was nominated in this category last year was Jon Lindstrom.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES

Tamara Braun (Kim Nero, “General Hospital”)
Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie Williams, “Days of our Lives”)
Rebecca Budig (Hayden Barnes, “General Hospital”)
Christel Khalil (Lily Winters, “The Young and the Restless”)
Annika Noelle (Hope Logan, “The Bold and the Beautiful”)

Last year Vernee Watson won as Stella on GH, and she isn't nominated. I don't really consider Annika Noelle as a supporting actress on B&B, the others I do think were in more supporting roles.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

Mark Grossman (Adam Newman, “The Young and the Restless”)
Chandler Massey (Will Horton, Days of our Lives”)
Bryton James (Devon Hamilton, “The Young and the Restless”)
James Patrick Stuart (Valentin Cassadine, “General Hospital”)
Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis, “Days of our Lives”)
Paul Telfer (Xander Kiriakis, “Days of our Lives”)

Last year, Max Gail won as Mike on GH, and again not nominated. Weird that no one on B&B got nominated in this category.

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER PERFORMER IN A DRAMA SERIES

Sasha Calle (Lola Rosales, “The Young and the Restless”)
Katelyn MacMullin (Willow Tate, “General Hospital”)
Olivia Rose Keegan (Claire Brady, “Days of our Lives”)
Eden McCoy (Joselyn Jacks, “General Hospital”)
Thia Megia (Hayley Chen, “Days of our Lives”)

This year the younger award is without gender and all people who submit in the category just need to meet the age requirement. How it is all women is a bit strange. Last year the two people who won in the non-combined categories Hayley Erin (Kiki, GH) and Kyler Pettis (Theo, Days) were no longer on their shows so they could not repeat either.

This year surprises me with no possibility of a repeat winner in the main soap acting categories.
