According to Nathan Varni at ABC on Twitter this happened as GH wasn't preempted as often as expected, which is why we're having these reruns.

While I find it a bit annoying, when I was younger I would have been extremely upset, as the end of August soap viewing before school starts was a bit of a tradition. The episodes before Labor Day used to be a thing, as they wanted to hook people to try and keep on watching as the autumn began.
