On prom night, Langston Wilde and Markko Rivera spent the night together and made love. This was the first time for both, and unlike many couples they didn't just jump into it. They weighed their options and dated two years before moving their relationship to the next level. This was surprising considering how teen couples tend to be written for in daytime.
Langston and Markko are the "sidekicks" of the star-crossed pair of Starr Manning and Cole Thornheart. Langston became Starr's best friend and eventually was adopted by Starr's great aunt Dorian. Markko is Cole's best buddy who stood by him through Starr's pregnancy and drug dependency. Langston and Markko are self-professed freaks at least according to Prom Night: The Musical OLTL's cashing-in on the High School Musical craze, which actually netted the show a decent amount of iTunes music sales.
Once they left the prom in 2009, they retired to the Palace to make love. Dorian wouldn't leave them alone and eventually Langston answered the phone. The condoms she gave Langston had been tampered with and a pregnancy could happen. Langston and Markko then made love using the condoms that Markko bought at the pharmacy with Cole's help. They saw what Cole and Starr went through getting pregnant after making love one time, and didn't want to go through that as a couple. It is refreshing to see a young couple make love on a soap, use protection, not get a sexually transmitted disease or an unexpected baby. While Langston is just 17, and Markko 18, they showed maturity in how they handled their relationship. Not everything should be a cautionary tale.
So Langston and Markko are the angst free filled couple that are used as counterpoint until now, though even their strife is being played for comedy. Dorian got upset over Langston's Uncle Ray leaving town to care for his daughter Lola (who killed her mother allowing him to spend years in prison and poking holes into condoms), that on the day of Markko's graduation from high school, she announced to Markko's parents that Langston and Markko had slept together. Since Markko comes from a conservative Catholic family, his parents especially his father were disgusted and felt like he dishonored them. It was later revealed that Markko's parents met when they were around the same age as the pair, so it would seem that they married early.
By having Markko's family be the one who takes offensive with Langston, it feels like a role reversal. Instead of parents being overprotective of the under 18 year old girl who had sex, the parents of the 18 year old boy are having issues with their child's sexual behavior. Hopefully Langston and Markko are able to deal with his parents concerns and are able to continue to date.
