Being stuck in a job that is beneath you, not living up to your intelligence, lacking self-esteem or wishing for something different? All of those things could be said about Chuck Bartowski (my parents may say the same things about me, but I digress) until the day a super computer called the intersect was placed in his head by his former best friend Bryce, played by soap alum Matt Bomer (who played Ben Reade on GL aka why I checked out the show, that and Adam Baldwin who plays Casey one of his handlers as I was a fan of Firefly).
Chuck isn't a soap opera, but a hybrid of a serial, a comedy, a sci-fi/fantasy show and an action program. The Monday night time slot against CBS comedies, FOX dramas, Gossip Girl (which shares a creator) and Dancing with the Stars, didn't help matters. Even with all that competition, I made the time for Chuck. Unfortunately with NBC airing five nights a week of Jay Leno in the 10 p.m. eastern, 9 p.m. central time slot starting in the fall makes programming scarce and Chuck may fall through the cracks.
From week to week, one would see Chuck grow as he dealt with his two lives, the one being tech support at the Buy More, and the other the spy world. Chuck and his sister Ellie were abandoned their parents, their mother walked out (we never found out the circumstances), their father did too (though that was revealed to be because of the intersect computer.) His best friend Morgan a chronic underachiever who also worked at the store, along with their other friends were put into danger due to Chuck's double life. People from the rival Fulcrum would try to kill him.
In the end, Chuck became a hero even if unexpectedly. He used his talents to help save the world and many times his friends and family. He wowed Sarah his other handler and they fell in love. The season ended with Chuck getting fighting skills along with his mental ones as he downloaded the intersect computer into his brain again. After quitting his job at the store, and his cover blown, what will happen? Will anyone else in find out his secret or not? Will he be able to have a real relationship with Sarah? Hopefully these questions will be answered as more mysteries unfold.
