Soap Stars in Other Places: Celebrity Bowling

MeTV, a digital broadcaster, posts videos on a weekly basis of some of their programs. Every Monday, they update the episodes. I looked at their site today and they have five episodes of Celebrity Bowling.

Celebrity Bowling was a syndicated 70s era show hosted by Jed Allan, years before he was CC Capwell on Santa Barbara. During the taping of these shows, he was part of the cast of Days of Our Lives as Don Craig. Don was a major character, but one day disappeared from Salem without a goodbye. Due to his being on Days back then it is conceivable that some of his cast mates would appear on "Celebrity Bowling". This week there is a video that has been posted when that has happened. The episode linked here: number 85 includes Susan Flannery, who back then played Dr. Laura Horton. To most soap fans, she's better known as the late Stephanie Forrester, a part she played for 25 years until she decided to retire from "The Bold and the Beautiful."

The basic premise of the show is two teams of celebrities bowl for the audience. The teams are playing for people who are in the studio and not for charity. The prizes didn't seem too large, but truthfully it would be extremely difficult to get really amazing bowlers on this show. Due to the strike difference being the same with both teams at least all of the chosen audience members won something. I see it as a proto-reality show though back then I believe it would have been seen as a game show.

The show was decent for what it was, non-confrontrational and the celebrities seemed to care about what they were doing. A celebrity bowling show in today's environment would have a very different flair.  That being said in places the audio wasn't consistent. Of course, this could be due to the age of the video that was posted online. If you have a few 20-25 minutes and are curious about seeing Susan Flannery when she was younger or Jed Allan with dark hair, check out the MeTV website.
