Days: Inside Salem Days of Our Lives Podcast Episode 29 (Final Show)

The twenty-ninth episode of Inside Salem Days of Our Lives podcast aired this week. Below is a quick summary and thoughts.

This episode was not the normal format as it was the last one.

The show began with an interview with Ron Carlivati, who is head-writing the program. He spoke about the time jump and why certain decisions were made. Like how Lani became a nun with Kristen. There were also some clips of moments. The second main section was at Day of Days, there were interviews with actors at the event, which was followed by show trivia with viewers. The last section was the people involved with the podcast discussing its end, and how it was not their decision to stop producing the show.

I think having a podcast was a good idea, but coming up with about 45 minutes of content every two weeks is a lot about one show. Especially since it had to be press-worthy positive material involving current employees only, and not everyone at Days probably was interested in participating making it more difficult to produce. I liked hearing a little bit from behind the scenes staff, and wanted more of that. (I think with the Days fanbase being as diverse as it is in its interests, different listeners would want completely different things.)

The other difficulty is with soap opera, stories are on-going so they go out of date very quickly. A podcast about episodic television is easier in a sense as you can focus one episode of podcast per episode of program.  Also coming up with good audio content is a challenge with so much of life/fandom now being visual with memes. Subject matter such as a dressing room, which is an old school soap opera print magazine feature just doesn't work for audio.

I liked listening to this, and hope eventually the powers that be at Days come up with another idea to continue using the audio format. Podcasts are a popular thing, and there are successful television related pods, so I hope it can be done.
