GL: Kim Zimmer's Memoir Part Three

Here is part three of my write up on Kim Zimmer’s (Guiding Light’s Reva) memoir. The full title of the book is “I’m Just Sayin’! 3 Deaths, 7 Husbands, and a Clone! My Life as a Daytime Diva.” Laura Morton who co-wrote Susan Lucci’s book also did that job here. These are just my thoughts; spoilers about the book are included.

Chapter nine is called Backstage Pass. She talks about the hair and makeup people. Then goes into some details about filming in Peapack, New Jersey, like not having dressing rooms and hanging out in small areas where everyone was close together. Kim also mentions meeting Stevie Wonder and his wife in an elevator at 57th street studio complex. She found out that they watched GL and enjoyed her for years. She also mentions going to the celebrity golf tournament in North Carolina.

Chapter ten is called How I died three times and lived to tell about it! This chapter summarizes Reva stories. It starts with how Reva died in 1990 and then later when everyone assumes she died and Josh with the help of Dr. Michael Burke clones her. Then she mentions the Reva cancer story, which was controversial. She also talks about Reva losing Kyle (Larkin Malloy) and wanting to commit suicide back in the 1980s that she didn't like.

Chapter eleven is called Seven husbands. This chapter goes into detail about all the men Reva married. She goes into more detail about Reva and Kyle. Kim also goes into the background of Reva with the Lewis children (Billy, Trish and Josh) and how she married Billy, then H.B. (Larry Gates). She mentions Ron Raines in this section, though Alan and Reva weren’t married when Ron was in the part. She talks about how he is so nice and respectful. Reva’s “dead” time and how she came back Amish. Then she mentions Reva’s marriages to Buzz, Richard (as Catherine) and Jeffrey. She doesn’t forget Mark Dobies either who played Noah, though Reva was only engaged to Noah as they never got to the altar. In this chapter, she also writes about directors GL had. Her favorite was JoAnne Sedwick, she also mentions Irene Pace and Bruce Barry. What is funny is that she says Bruce directed love scenes in a rough way, so of course, I wonder if anyone has checked to compare love scenes per that comment. Then she mentions Tom Pelphrey and the history of his character Jonathan as Reva’s son with Richard.

Chapter twelve is called Everything’s Coming up Rosie. In this chapter, she writes about appearing on the Rosie O’Donnell show and also on the Oprah Winfrey show and how those experiences differed. The Oprah stuff is interesting and slightly controversial.

Chapter thirteen is called Success is the best revenge. This chapter is about the Daytime Emmys. She goes into details about how she felt when she won and what her reel was. Another story she shares is how one of her Emmys went missing during her daughter Rachel’s 16th birthday party. Someone stole it to give as a gift to a girl, but they didn’t press charges, and got it back quickly.

This is part three of my summary of Kim Zimmer’s memoir. The next and last part will be the most difficult for me to write about as it focuses on the end of days at Guiding Light and how things felt apart at the program.
