Soap Stars in Other Places: Family Feud Challenge Y&R, GL & B&B

Another video with the stars of "The Bold and the Beautiful", "Guiding Light", and "The Young and the Restless" from July 1992 has been posted. This originally aired the same week as the GL blackout story - their 40th anniversary. Below is a video and a summary of what happened.

Here is the embedded video. This was the introduction of the bullseye game, which added a new element to the program. Since this is from the early 90s, Ray Combs is the host. This episode is full including classic advertising, a Y&R "try me" ad about the Victoria, Ryan and Nina triangle is about 24 minutes into the video. After the show was over there is a GL ad about 58 minutes in for the Nick, Mindy, and Eve triangle.

The Y&R team was Doug Davidson (Paul Williams), Jess Walton (Jill Abbott), Victoria Rowell (Drucilla Barber), Scott Reeves (Ryan McNeil) and Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters). The GL team was Melina Kanakaredes (Eleni Spaulding), Frank Dicopoulos (Frank Cooper), Amelia Marshall (Gilly Speakes), Melissa Hayden (Bridget Reardon) and Monti Sharp (David Grant), which were a bit hidden in this episode. The B&B actors would be playing in the second half of the hour-long program against the winner between Y&R and GL.

Each team got $2500 automatically to play for: the first question was for $500, the second $1000, the third $1500, the fourth $2000, and the fifth $2500. Only the number one answer counted for the money. The Y&R team ended up with $6000 and GL with $6500 banked. Only the winning team would get the chance to win the money. In this episode, since Doug and Melina were captains the teams played for their respective charities, Melina was playing for a Saint Basil's Academy. (The name of Doug's charity unclear on this episode and the one I posted about in 2015.) One of the jokes in this episode was that Doug wore the name tags for all the celebrities including the "As the World Turns" actors who weren't shown or mentioned. The other charities weren't referenced in the first part of this episode.

The first question was about child's first jobs, which the Y&R team won. The second was about what gives someone a swelled head, which the Y&R team got on a steal. They were ahead 243 to zero. Name something that squirts when you least expect it to, and Victoria surprised everyone by saying breast. The GL team won the points, as Doug didn't give a right answer when trying to steal so it was 243-210. The next is name part of your spouses body that is always cold. The GL team got to answer and they cleared the board and ended up with 507 points. They got to play Fast Money.

Frank played Fast Money first. The questions paraphrased: What do pets do to make people angry? Out of ten how attractive are you? Something made of silk, Something specific a clown wears and Something associated with the Lone Ranger. Frank got 153 by himself. Ray mentioned some charities before Amelia started to answer the questions. Amelia got exactly 200 before the last answer was revealed so they won their bank of $6500.

The B&B team was announced first: John McCook (Eric Forrester), Bobbie Eakes (Macy Forrester), Colleen Dion (Felicia Forrester), Kimberlin Brown (Sheila Carter) and Brent Jasmer (Sly). Colleen isn't on, but is announced, Joanna Johnson (Karen Spencer), plays in her place. Instead of starting with a bank of $2500, it is one for $5000. The dollar amounts that can be banked are $1000, $2000, $3000, $4000 and $5000. B&B played for $7,000, & GL played for $18,000.

The first question was: name something people do to get over a broken heart. GL got to play, but B&B stole 54. The number one was find someone new, which neither team got. The second question was: name a kind of store a woman browses when looking for a man. GL got to play again and had a clean sweep, so they got 172. The third question name something a landlord wants to know before you can rent: B&B got number one and played the question, the GL tried to steal, but was unsuccessful so the score became 261 to 172. The last question was about name a phrase that starts with soap: B&B stole with soap box and got 495 winning the game.

John and Bobbie played fast money. The questions were: name a place where you know you have to stand in line, the age sex drive diminishes, a drink that tastes best when very cold, something you do when you say goodbye, what you are doing at 11 pm. John got 133 points, while Bobbie got 110 for a total of 243 points, which won them $7,000.

At the end they mentioned all the CBS soaps and showed their teams stating how much they won for the week. "As the World Turns" got $6,000. From the quick glance it looked like the team was Ed Fry (Larry), Ellen Dolan (Margo), Judson Mills (Hutch), Marie Masters (Susan), and Greg Watson (Evan). The other teams won: GL - $8,160, Y&R - $8,790 and B&B - 31,860. Over $54,000 was given to the charities combined.

I'm glad a second episode of this week of "Family Feud" is available to view online. Looking at the classic ads was fun. I hope some day we'll be able to see one of the days that "As the World Turns" competed on the show.
