Y&R & B&B on Memorial Day 2011

Since I was off for Memorial Day and doing nothing I decided to watch CBS daytime specifically their airings of The Young & The Restless and The Bold & the Beautiful. Here are my thoughts on those two episodes.

Y&R did a somewhat stand-alone episode for the holiday. While story was advanced, characters on screen celebrated the holiday. The Chancellors had a cookout on their grounds as they said goodbye to Chance who was going back to Iraq. Nina was still reeling from her son for agreeing to yet another tour of duty. She got out her star flag and hoped for the best. There was one moment of comedy in this when Jill tried to make Nina feel better, by discussing the old days. She suggested thinking about how much she hated Jill back when she was pregnant with Chance. Just the idea of this sent Nina into giggles, which is what she needed. If someone suggested years ago that they would be able to interact as friends I would have looked at them like they were crazy. Chance also said goodbye to Chloe. While they were no longer a couple, at least now they were parting as friends, and she kissed him. Chance also spent time with Delia who is his uncle’s daughter, but at one point he would have been her stepfather. Heather and Paul showed up causing stress for Nina. She blamed Heather for Chance going away, but Heather was leaving Genoa City temporarily to do work for Michael. Kay told a story about an older guy in the neighborhood who went to war, but never came back. While Murphy talked about serving in Korea. All of these scenes fit into the general theme of Memorial Day. There may not have been a speech for those who serve, but we did see a flying flag. The other story, which didn’t have to do with Memorial Day was Nick, Diane and Adam looking for information on Sharon’s death. Diane and Nick shared a plane ride home, while Adam stayed. Sharon who was calling herself Sheri saw him at the fair. Hopefully she will be able to hide from the fiancé who believes she is dead. Otherwise the lamb Sheri and her friends showed won a blue ribbon and they had apple pie.

B&B focused on the fallout of the revelation that Brooke and Thomas slept together on the island. They both ate berries, which caused them to act out of character and have sex. What Brooke doesn’t know is Thomas is lying about them having intercourse. They didn’t have sex, but his grandmother Stephanie wanted him to lie She even changed her will to give him 25% of Forrester. Steffy and Thomas also talked about their parents’ situation. Since Taylor and Whip broke up on another episode, it seems as if Stephanie has decided that she wants Taylor and Ridge together again. Ridge forgiving Brooke for sleeping with his son is out of the question, right. Of course, it is extremely possible that once it comes out that Ridge and Brooke were lied to they will be closer than ever, but perhaps not. That’s the big question.

So that’s what was on Y&R and B&B today. It was so strange watching them in the afternoon without anything else soap-wise to watch later in the day.
