In very odd soap opera news, Ken Corday is suing Sony for mistreatment of "Days of Our Lives" and how it was treated unfairly compared to "The Young and the Restless".
Much of the information on this claim has to do with streaming rights, and international distribution of the program. Days has so many years worth of archives from the beginning, and well Sony does have its own streaming site: Crackle. While Y&R isn't on that website either, this is something that could be monetized. I'm curious to see what happens about this situation.
The LA Times posted at the following link. The Newswire posted other information about the situation. Deadline posted about this as well. Basically, Y&R has had an advantage of treatment over Days by Sony and Corday had enough. According to the documents, Days was forced to have the black weeks, which costs them money as everyone has to continue to be paid for not working.
Anyway I wonder if this will help Days in the long run or hurt. We shall see.
