GH: The Sexual Harassment Story

General Hospital did a plot about metoo and sexual harassment below are my thoughts about it now that it seemingly has concluded.

Kiki (Hayley Erin) was a nurses' aide, and Dr. David Bensch (James DePaiva) felt she did a good job. He suggested she become a doctor, and so the story began. At first it was innocent, and only her ex-boyfriend Dillon (now out of town) saw that something was wrong. They shared dinner at the Floating Rib as colleagues. On the night of the Nurses' Ball he went too far, and after Griffin and Ava fought, Griffin and Kiki slept together - as Griffin comforted Kiki. Eventually he became more brazen, threatening her position at the hospital, if she did not agree to his demands and spend the night with him in a hotel. Kiki had enough and made a statement, unfortunately GH did not have enough evidence, but Kiki sued him using Alexis as her lawyer. Scott defended Dr. Bensch.

In late July, there was an episode where some of the older women shared how they had to deal with sexual harassment. Alexis got Jordan, Kim, Olivia, and Ava, to join her to talk about their experiences with men expecting them to sleep with them as part of the school or education process. Unfortunately none of the stories happened on screen, as we met all of these characters when they were older.

Eventually there was a trial Kiki and Griffin's one night stand was revealed, by Ava who was angry and told Scott. Franco accidentally texted Ava instead of Alexis. (Franco having both in his phone next to one another in the address book was amusing to me.) Francesca, who dated Michael for five minutes) and is a nurse at the hospital, testified that Dr. Bensch harassed her as well, and she gave in and had sex.

The story ended with Kiki winning the case, and getting 250,000, which she is giving to charity. Dr. Bensch wasn't fired from the hospital at first, but a week later he found out he got his walking papers. He told Kiki that he was going to sue the hospital for the unlawful termination, and she would be the star witness.  Ava was devastated that her daughter and her boyfriend had sex, and is done with them both. She told Monica, about Griffin doing a DNA test on Peter without his permission, and he was put on leave, with the potential of losing his position at the hospital.

I understand why GH told this story, but it could have been so much better. I wanted people to take sides, not have Scott be the lawyer, who knew Dr. Bensch was guilty, and thought about tanking the trial. I'm not saying that David Bensch was innocent, but having everyone believe Kiki was a bit unrealistic. So basically all I wanted was a more in-depth study about the situation, and how sexism can be part of any workplace. Of course, perhaps that was asking too much.
