Thoughts about "The Doctors" - November 1974

Another month's worth of episodes of "The Doctors" has aired on RetroTV. Below are my thoughts on what has aired for the month of November 1974.

Toni was back at work, and she took some time off to bring Michael Paul home from the hospital. We finally saw the baby after all this time. At the moment, he and his mother are still living at Martha's home. Everyone seemed happy about Toni and Alan's engagement, though both are still married to others. Margo hasn't given Alan, a divorce, while Toni believes that Mike is still alive. Toni had a bridal shower, but it was off camera. Lauri brought over a black negligee as a gift to Toni. Martha and Cadman continued dating going bowling.

Mike said goodbye to nurse Dawn, and they kissed. He promised that he would return, and arrived in Madison. He saw Toni and Alan kissing in the lab, not recognizing his cousin at first. Mike was upset, and left without speaking with anyone except a bartender and Greta. Greta happened to be in the hospital at that day, and he told her how she has gotten very pretty (paraphrased). Greta thinks it is Mike, as the voice is the same, but Maggie and Matt don't believe her. (At this point, I'm thinking does Greta not know about Karen being alive...or else she should bring that up not the movie "The Exorcist.") Greta was determined to find Mike, and went to the hotel bar, and was thrown out due to being a kid.

Karen continued to have more memories, but wasn't really on screen. Rolf didn't believe she was remembering just putting together conversations to make dreams. Steve admitted to Carolee how he blames himself for Karen, Kathy, and even Ann's situation. Carolee reassured him, but he was right about how he did make all of these women's lives worse. Carolee asked Steve to played in the father/son touch football game, as Billy wanted to play and Erich was the water boy. Late in the month, Billy asked Carolee again if Steve would do it, as it would be bad for the co-captain's father to not participate. Also Hank and Lauri moved into the apartment above the garage, which still needed work, as it was an empty room.

Ann's health got worse, and Nick's friend Tommy Barrett, from years ago off screen, came to help as he is an infectious disease doctor. Tommy and Nick went to school together, but it didn't seem like he knew Maggie, so it probably was at a different portion of his medical training. He was more realistic about the situation than the others. Jemo sent a vial of his blood to help Ann, though we didn't see him. He survived the disease, and there was discussion about whether this would help or hurt Ann. Eventually Ann's fever broke and no one could find Iris. All that had was her name and that her late husband was a patient at Hope Memorial and originally from South Africa. Althea spent a lot of time looking at files to find her last name. No one is sharing the truth that there is a potential epidemic in Madison, and Kitty Harris came to investigate at the hospital.

Margo decided to return to Madison, and was really upset over how her doctor in Hawaii said she could never have another child. She had some sort of infection though if this happened when she had a miscarriage years ago, it doesn't make much sense. As the month closed, Margo went to Toni's home and told her how can she marry Alan as he is still wed.

Those were the highlights of November1974. This month there was one preemption (November 28 for Thanksgiving). I wish there had been an actual scene between Billy and Toni that wasn't over the phone. It was cool to see a bit of Sam, as I thought once Penny left Madison, she would disappear.
